I’m joined for this post by leadership and visibility coach Steph Wharton. Steph is a quirky Latina known as the queen of leadership and visibility, who thrives on breaking the rules and prioritizing fun in life and business. She specializes in helping folks diversify their marketing beyond social media through strategic partnerships that expose them to untapped audiences filled with dream clients ready to invest.
We had such a great convo on the podcast (tune in for allll the details!), and I’m recapping it below.
Steph’s Business Goals
Steph gave some background on her business goals. She shared that as a leadership and visibility coach, she helps her clients break the rules. She knows that there’s a lot of pressure to do things a certain way on social media, but she encourages her clients to own their role as a leader in their own space.
There’s so much temptation to copy what others are having success with on social media, but doing so just causes us to become a pale version of ourselves.
Her main goals are to help entrepreneurs expand their reach, make their business more sustainable, and put structure into their life that allows it to be more fun. Overall, she just wants the entrepreneurs she works with to be motivated to show up for their business in a way that leads to their ultimate success.
Steph’s Business Journey
Steph and I chatted about how she got started in her business. When she graduated from college, like many of us do – she felt the pressure to get a corporate job. She was working in insurance, but she ended up experiencing burnout and realized she simply wasn’t passionate about what she was doing.
It was from there that she realized she wanted to do something that really lit her up. That led her to take online courses – on many topics! She took them on design, photography, and multiple other things. From there, she fell into design and started doing it on the side.
Eventually, she moved into that role full-time and was a brand strategist and designer. Then, she soon found that people were coming to her for support and she was finding success through visibility. At this point, it was fun and exciting, but there was a method to her madness!
It was then that Steph pivoted to what she does now: being a leadership and visibility coach. She truly LOVES what she does (what a gift!) and keeps at it even when she’s on vacation. Why? Because she genuinely enjoys it, finds it fun, and loves being able to show up as herself.
Expectations on Social Media
We’ve all heard about visibility on Instagram, especially as of late, and there are a lot of complaints going around that people aren’t seeing our content (I’m guilty of this myself!). Steph and I chatted about this, and she noted that this is one of those things that we set expectations for ourselves around. We get stuck in those vanity metrics, of likes, engagement, and so on.
But – why are we not reframing that to show up in a way that serves our community? It’s hard to do, but that’s our ultimate goal. We want to create impact and show up for fun and share what’s on our hearts and minds. That’s what we need to remember when those expectations start to creep in.

Expanding Your Reach Beyond Social Media
Steph also shared some great ways to expand your reach beyond social media. She knows this can be daunting for a lot of people, so she suggests using the rule of three.
Here, different types of visibility are separated into three different buckets. The first is traditional social media platforms. The second is methods where you have more control over your audience – like an email list. The third is strategic partnerships to get in front of new communities.
With this rule, pick one method under each bucket. This allows for a diversified and simplified way to show up in front of different groups.
Building Quality Collaborations
A huge way to increase your visibility and expand your reach is through quality collaborations. These are so beneficial, but they can be tough to get started on or to find.
Steph offered her advice here. She noted that these strategic partnerships are a great way to come together to share value to both or one community. This provides free value and allows you to create a greater impact – it’s a win-win!
There are so many ways to collaborate with other entrepreneurs – for instance, through speaking engagements or by coming together with another entrepreneur to create an offer, like I did with my BFF Eve recently. Doing this combines two zones of genius and ensures all the work isn’t on one person’s shoulders.
Make It Values-Based: The Bottom Line
At the end of the day, Steph and I agree: the partnerships you create and the content you put out there should be based on your values. Everything should be aligned with your target market and, most importantly, be genuine and be yourself. When you do that, you simply can’t go wrong!
