3 Reasons You Need To Identify Your Unique Coaching Method
In episode 90 of The Pretty Awkward Entrepreneur Podcast, I’m diving into why identifying your unique coaching method is important and what it can do for your business.
Of course, I talk about the unique coaching method a lot (it’s kind of my thing, after all). But I wanted to take the time to tell you why you should even care.
I can say with certainty that for myself and the clients I’ve worked with that have had massive success, it’s because of this!
Identifying your unique coaching method will help you stand out, attract the right clients for you, and honestly just help you be more confident in yourself.
But before we dive in, let me introduce myself. My name is Megan Yelaney, and I have built two six-figure businesses and one multi-six-figure business by fully embracing my authentic self and not trying to hide the quirks that make me, ME. So if you’re a female entrepreneur looking to learn, grow your business strategies and mindset, and scale your biz to multiple six figures while having fun doing it…you’re in the right place, girl! Because I made this podcast exactly for YOU!
And today we’re talking all about why you need to identify your unique coaching method. For all the details, listen to the entire episode on your favorite streaming platform!
What your unique coaching method is (and isn’t).
Your unique coaching method is how you go about helping your clients achieve their transformation, not the transformation itself.
Your industry and clients don’t affect it. For example, you could be a business coach but take a spiritual approach to coaching.
Your approach is not the transformation you are helping them with. It’s the lens through which you help them get there. I want to be clear on that so you’re not confused and so you know that you don’t have to limit yourself to a certain kind of approach.
Business coaches are not only strategic.
Mindset coaches are not only spiritual.
This is about your unique methodology. With that, let’s dive into the three reasons you need to identify your own unique coaching method.
Reason #1: Your unique method helps you stand out in your industry.
Your Instagram feed is probably filled with people who do something similar to you (pro-tip: stop following some of them!). It can be overwhelming to see so many other people with similar bios and “I help” statements.
I want you to reframe this and try not to see it as a bad thing.
Look at it as an opportunity to draw your line in the sand and show how you’re different.
Identifying your unique coaching method will help you know how you’re different than other coaches, and it will help your clients know why they should work with you.
Your content is going to be KEY here. I want you to think about how you want your clients to feel inside your container and communicate that explicitly. Think about what you want your audience to associate with you.
Maybe you are really bold. Or maybe you deliver your content in a fun and entertaining way. Whatever it is, use your content to communicate what’s unique about you.

Reason #2: Your unique method helps you attract soul mate clients.
When first starting a business, it’s common to take on whoever wants to work with you. And that’s understandable.
It’s kind of like a rite of passage, but that’s not what you want to do forever.
You want to work with soul mate clients – people who you have an amazing connection with. This isn’t so much based on demographics as it is about personality.
What are your ideal client’s values?
Who are they as a human?
How do they show up?
Be really clear about that in all your messaging. You want your clients to have the same values as you so you can build a solid relationship.
I have always been very clear about who my ideal client is and my approach to coaching. I want my clients to take responsibility for their own results. They trust the process and they trust my methodologies. It’s not by accident! It’s extremely intentional.
So I encourage you to be very clear in your messaging. Explain how your process works so that your clients trust you and aren’t blindsided by anything you do.
Reason #3: Your unique method helps you get past comparison.
Comparison absolutely cripples entrepreneurs.
I can speak from my own experience. About a year ago, I had an amazing launch that I was extremely proud of. But then I got on Instagram to see what my friends were doing.
I saw that one of them had a launch that was twice the amount I made. I started to feel like I wasn’t enough. My amazing launch suddenly felt like nothing.
Thankfully I was able to come out of that state of mind pretty quickly. I was able to recognize that this friend was helping clients with something completely different than I was. And my launch was amazing for me. That was enough.
It might be a cliche phrase, but it’s worth repeating: comparison is the thief of joy. When you recognize your own uniqueness, it helps you not get swept up in comparison. You’re able to differentiate yourself and not feel like you’re “just another coach.”
3 Reasons You Need To Identify Your Unique Coaching Method: The Bottomline
What I love most about the unique coaching method is that it affects every other aspect of your business– your product suite, your content, launching hiring, everything! When you get clear about your own uniqueness, you’ll be better able to make decisions and see your business grow!
