It’s hard to believe that 2021 is coming to a close! As the year winds down, I wanted to take some time to reflect on what I learned this year and talk about my big plans for 2022.
This year presented a challenge – it felt harder to sign clients and get leads. This came off of 2020 when online work was great. With that being said, let’s dive into everything this year of work taught me and where I’m headed in the new year.
2021 was a tough year for online business. Because so many businesses were forced to move online in 2020, the competition was steeper this year. But something else that really made it tough was the fact that the real world affects online business. This is true even when we may think otherwise.
The economy, people’s mental health, and relationships all affect how a client spends their money. These factors determine their buying decision and it also has an impact on their belief in themselves. That’s a huge part of investing in things – people want to believe they’re doing things right.
This is something that 2021 has taught me, and it’s definitely a valuable lesson to better understand how people are acting and reacting to what’s going on around them.
The next thing that 2021 taught me is that my business has its seasons. I fell into the habit of equating my success and worth with my ability to continuously beat myself and my earnings month after month. I now have realized that expecting to always beat myself is not reasonable or feasible.
My business isn’t always going to be doubling my income every year. In fact, in 2021 my income dropped. And sure – part of that is because I pulled back on what I was offering to focus more on things in my personal life. But it’s also because some things that I was working on didn’t pan out the way I hoped. And that’s business and that’s just life.
This has taught me that there are seasons to every business, including my own. I’m going to have ups and downs. just like everyone else. That’s simply the business world.
I’m so lucky that my husband brought me back to earth in remembering that my business is not even four years old. I can’t expect myself to double, triple, or quadruple my earnings.
That brings me to a very valuable lesson that I learned that you cannot base your confidence and your talents and abilities on how much money you’re making in the moment.
I completely based my confidence on my earnings and then was left wondering if I was even good anymore. Even though I knew I was delivering for my clients and I know my experience backs me up, the earnings drop really had me in a funk for part of 2021.
But I’ve now realized that every year won’t present that crazy high growth. Especially when you’re honoring your boundaries and priorities, which I’m proud I did this year.

The last lesson I want to share is how precious time is and the fact that you cannot buy it back. There’s no price that will get time back for you. That’s the truth of the matter.
Money does buy freedom and it can buy you other opportunities. It affords you amazing experiences. But, you can’t purchase time if you spend all your time working and none of your time actually out there enjoying life.
I cut back my workload this year because I wanted more time. More time to do nothing, have quiet, to enjoy. I love living in New York and Las Vegas. I want to enjoy both places.
I’m so proud of myself for reclaiming the time I needed in my life in 2021. In 2022, I want to take even more time to allow myself to create because it’s something I absolutely love. I also love performing – I want more time to take on small gigs to satisfy that passion.
I want to have a passion project that’s purely for fun. I LOVE TikTok and want to create an account that’s entertaining and funny that has nothing to do with my business. It’s something I’m excited about, which makes it worth it to dedicate the time to do it.
It’s just so important to enjoy what you do, enjoy who you work with, and enjoy the process as much as you can. I’m so grateful for the lessons that this challenging year has provided me.
Now let’s move on to where I’m headed in 2022! It’s exciting to look towards a new year, a fresh start. Let’s start with the business side of things.
A huge focus for 2022 from a programming standpoint is the Smart Online Success Academy. I’m going to be putting that into an evergreen program so that people can join any time of the year for an entire year. That’s definitely where my main focus will be.
I’m also going to continue coaching a small subset of private clients. Around five people or less. This is going to be somewhat of a coaching and consulting package. I go SO all in with my private clients, and it takes a lot of energy, so that’s why I’m not going to take on too many of them.
This is a six-month package that’s pretty pricey. It’s for people who are making good money and looking for help in taking their business to the next level. I’m actually going to be getting certified as a coach in 2022, which is something I’m really excited about.
I also want to host a couple more live events in 2022. I did three back-to-back in 2021, which I won’t be doing again because it was so much energy at once. But I do love doing them! I really thrive in person. So I want to do an event in Las Vegas and one in New York in 2022 throughout the course of the year.
As I talked about a bit above, I’m also going to leave space for creating in 2022. That’s so important to me, even if it’s just for something fun, like my passion project TikTok account.
I also am going to do some 90-minute intensives, which are 90-minute calls and Voxxer coaching that are usually with past clients.
For now, I’m going to make a change in retiring my Mastermind program that I’ve been running since 2019. This is a really hard decision for me as it’s been my favorite program. But I got honest with myself, and I don’t want to spend my time on it in 2022. It requires so much coaching and a lot of calls, and it can feel like that is taking over on my calendar and not leaving me the free space I need.
Finally, I’m really going to focus on the podcast in 2022. And I’m so pumped for that. It’s the main platform I focus on for my social media efforts, and I’m going to be doing all sorts of cool things with it, like giveaways, upping my Facebook group community surrounding the podcast episodes, and more.
With all that said, I’m wishing you the best as you enter the new year! I’m so happy for all that I learned in 2021, the challenges I faced, and my triumphs. I’m also really excited for the year ahead and can’t wait to serve my clients and focus on the creation I’m craving.
