In this post, I’m recapping my conversation with Facebook Group Growth Specialist Aly Bloom, who just happens to be my best friend and is an amazing resource on this very important topic.
Aly is a Broadway actress turned entrepreneur. After spending 10 years in NYC (doing shows with Megan!) Aly first ventured into entrepreneurship with Network Marketing. In one year she had risen to the top 1% of the company and had created her first six-figure business. After she left, she did full scope business coaching, dabbled in tech and ultimately ended up creating a business with her Sister-In-Law after (accidentally!) creating a FB Group and growing it to 1000 members in the first 14 days of opening it to the public. 18 months later that same FB Group is 59,000 members strong, they are about to hit their first million in sales and have helped over 3000 female entrepreneurs build and sell out of thriving FB Groups. And now is the time to understand and get on board with the value of these groups, as they can be a major resource for you and your business. Aly and I met each other at a Beach Body event and we go WAY back. She’s truly one of my best friends! Through our work with Beach Body, we both learned so much about marketing.
Then, in March of 2020, Aly started a Facebook group. This came kind of on a whim after discussing it over margaritas with her sister-in-law. To both of their surprise, it grew really quickly and today they still use the strategy that was effective in growing that group.
The vision for the group when they first started it was kind of non-existent. They were simply looking to support women entrepreneurs. They soon realized that Facebook is a great place for people to connect with others and be vulnerable, which is the crux of what they built this business on.
Today, their group has over 46 thousand members. Wow, right?! In building this amazing group, Aly has learned a lot about Facebook groups and is able to share her knowledge and passion with others, helping them to grow their business just like she has.
A lot of people see Facebook as a more old-school social media platform. In the minds of many, Instagram and TikTok are the social platforms of today whereas Facebook is antiquated. But, groups are a hugely useful tool that you don’t want to miss out on.
Before becoming a Facebook group growth specialist, Aly had success on both Instagram and Facebook. However, she found that maintaining and growing that success meant that she had to be constantly “on” for her social media accounts. That meant posting stories, editing photos, being a slave to her “grid aesthetic”, and writing long-form captions and blogs.
This took a LOT of time and effort. However, Facebook is super time savvy. It’s all about creating conversation! People are more forthcoming in Facebook groups because they’re more private. AND, the members of these groups know they’re surrounded by like-minded people, which makes them feel safer being vulnerable.
That makes these groups a great place to source genuine feedback. It takes the guesswork out of what that audience wants because they spell it out right there in the group. This allows you to know what your people need, create programs based on that knowledge, and then have something that will truly sell.

Facebook is a great place for lead generation. Facebook groups do this particularly well. This is probably why the company itself is focusing REALLY hard on groups. Even Mark Zuckerberg is zeroed in on the value they have to offer!
Facebook is the only social media platform that has these private spaces for users to go and express opinions. Plus, SO many Facebook users utilize groups and the platform has faster growth than its competitors.
Another thing to note about these groups is that the people in them are genuinely interested in participating. There is a “cost of entry” to many of these groups, meaning that you have to answer questions or submit your email to get in. That translates to a high percentage of members in groups purchasing things.
Remember that people join these groups with intention, which translates to major sales.
