How to Be Yourself and Live Your Truth While Still Establishing an Authority
One of the biggest questions I get asked as a business coach is, “How do I share my personality online while still establishing myself as an authority?”
Here’s the great news– you DON’T have to hide any part of yourself for your business to succeed! In fact, the more you showcase who you truly are, the better your business will do!
Today, I’m going to give you practical steps you can use to strategically (not randomly!) insert your personality into your brand and business in a way that attracts high-paying dream clients. All while still establishing your authority!
What “professional” really means.
Before we talk about showcasing your personality while establishing authority in your business, I think it’s important to define what being professional and having authority actually means.
When they think about what it means to be professional, a lot of people have images of fancy suits and ties, organized spaces, and just overall being really polished and perfect. But that’s NOT what being professional really means! That’s not what people really care about.
Being professional means that you show up how you promise you’ll show up for your clients. You deliver what you say you’ll deliver. Period.
As long as you fulfill your promises, you don’t need to worry about being taken seriously. Your actions will speak for themselves!
My example of personality-driven but authority-establishing content.
I’ve been taking advantage of Instagram reels lately. They’re a lot of fun, but they’re also a great client attraction tool.
I have made a series of “Alexis Rose as your Biz Coach” reels. I dressed up and pretended I was Alexis Rose from Schitt’s Creek. I gave the opposite advice I’d normally give as Alexis. Then in the caption, I gave my real advice.
This was so fun to create, and it also got a lot of traction! I literally signed clients because of these reels! Take a look at some of them below:

Here’s what I did with that content that made it attract clients for my business:
- I picked something I genuinely loved that was also well-known and that many of my clients would like too– Schitt’s Creek!
- I made an entertaining video that grabbed attention and also showed a fun part of my personality.
- I provided free value– the content was both entertaining and educational.
You can totally do something similar in your business! I encourage you to explore what you enjoy and infuse it into your own brand!
How to create, not duplicate.
There’s nothing inherently wrong with looking at what other coaches are doing online. This can be helpful and give you some good ideas. And you want to be knowledgeable about what’s going on in your industry.
The problem, however, is when you look at other coaches and compare yourself to them. It’s harmful to you, not helpful, if you think you have to be a replica of other successful people.
Spoiler alert: duplicating other coaches’ content won’t sell! Because it’s not yours! And it won’t help establish your unique authority. People want to buy YOU, not a second-rate version of someone else.
So look to other coaches for inspiration. What you can do is take the essence of something you like and then make it your own.
For example, with my Alexis Rose reels, there are four things at the essence:
- Playful
- Humorous
- Not taking myself too seriously
- Simultaneously entertaining and educating
You can take those four elements and create your own content. This way, you’re not copying someone else. You’re just getting inspiration for your own ideas!
How to Be Yourself and Live Your Truth While Still Establishing an Authority: The Bottomline
Remember that you are a PERSONAL brand. People want to buy from people, not robots! So don’t be afraid to show your personality online. It doesn’t hurt your authority or make you less professional. I promise that people will want to invest in the REAL you!
So if you want to sell out your programs and attract dream clients, just be yourself.
