Creating Unique Content, Point #1: An Activity that Will Help you Find your Uniqueness
What I see people struggling with is feeling like they’re just another one in the crowd. They feel like “just another coach,” or whatever industry they’re in.
If you’re feeling this way, the best way to counteract this is to focus on the things that make you, you! I learned this activity when I was training to be a life coach, and I’ve found it to be super powerful.
Here’s what you do:
Grab a piece of paper, and draw a line down the middle.
On one side, write “being,” and on the other side write “doing.”
On the “being” side, list the things that make up your personality as a whole.
What words describe who you are? It’s helpful to think about how a friend might describe you.
Then on the “doing” side, list all the things you love to do.
You can write the books you like to read, TV shows you watch, hobbies you have, and rituals.
Doing this activity, you might feel like what you wrote down is a little boring, but all of your interests are things you potentially have in common with someone else. Knowing this will help you connect to your ideal client. This human connection piece is so important.
Your clients should feel like you really “get” them. The more you fuse the things you wrote on your list into your content, the more you’ll be able to find what sticks and refine your messaging.

Creating Unique Content, Point #2: Questions that will Guide your Content Creation
The second thing I want you to consider when you’re thinking about your signature stand out is how you want to make people feel.
These are a few questions I want you to answer:
- When people are inside your container, how do you want them to feel? What words immediately come to mind?
- When your client is at a store and they see something that reminds them of you, what sensations or feelings do you want them to have?
- What symbols, themes, signs, or words do you want them to associate you with?
Be sure to communicate to potential clients how they will feel if they work with you!
Focus on that in the content you put out.
People will remember how you make them feel.
When you focus your content around these values, you’ll stand out from others in your industry. Commit to sharing how people feel inside your community once a week. I promise you, it’s so valuable to you and your people!
Creating Unique Content, Point #3: Talk About your Process
Talk explicitly about what happens when someone works with you.
What’s a first call like?
Do you take thorough notes in your calls?
Is there homework for your clients to do?
Do you have fun icebreakers in group calls?
How do check-ins go?
Make sure your audience knows this! Communicate your process in the content you put out there. This will give your audience the security they need to take the steps to work with you.
In my applications, I have people answer why they want to work with me, and I highly recommend you do this too. This will help you know what it is about you that sticks with your audience. Use this to lean into your own unique edge.
Creating Unique Content, Point #4: Use Metaphors
Once you’ve created your being/doing lists, look back at them and ask yourself which of the things you’ve written lend themselves to metaphors.
Using metaphors will definitely help you stand out and connect with your audience in a unique and fun way!
It will help them “get” what you’re saying on a deeper level too.
I’ve connected business to Friends, Harry Potter, Schitt’s Creek, and so much more!
I have a TON of examples for you here! Check them out, and come up with some fun metaphors of your own!
I know this will be so valuable for you and your clients. Have fun, and think outside the box!
