Identify the type of coach you are.
The first step is identifying the type of coach you are. I was a guest speaker for one of my good friends’ programs last week. In the program, they were all macro nutrition coaches. That’s the service they all provide.
However, you can break that down further into at least 4 different coaching methods or styles.
This is how you can truly stand out. You could identify as a macro nutrition coach but have a totally different style or method than another macro nutrition coach. This is exactly how you stand out and make yourself unique.
It’s very important that you also get clear on your “I help” statement.
It can be easy to overthink this, I have been there myself. Sometimes I change it based on what I’m launching or who I want to help. Make sure your statement is very clear and that’s where the unique coaching method can serve you.
Another part of this is about infusing your personality into your service. You have to figure out a way you can combine your personality alongside your branding in a cohesive way. T
hat’s how you achieve your unique coaching method and profile.
The 4 types of coaching and how to determine which one you are.
There are 4 pillars within being a coach that I think is crucial to understand and determine how you stand out from the rest!
The first type is a skill set strategy-based coach. These coaches are drawn to marketing funnels and automation. They also love data, they’re often smart and logical. These coaches want to be known for professionalism and beautiful marketing. Their content matches this concept as well, mostly surrounding technical strategies.
The next type of coach is a skill set and mindset-based coach.
This coach is drawn to all things mindset, branding, and consumer behavior. I knew this was personally my arena because I have always found a deep interest in understanding why people do what they do.
I majored in Integrated Communications and Marketing in college, one of my favorite classes was about consumer behavior. This type of coaching is almost viewed as the trusted big sister, and they are known for mindset breakthroughs.
Their content is driven to encourage that and build authentic connections.
The third type of coach is aspirational-based. This type of coach is almost influencer-like.
Although the typical influencer does not offer a service, this coach does.
Aspirational coaches are drawn to develop branding skills, graphics, and write aspirational copy. This is a coach that wants their audience to see the bigger picture of things.
The last type of coach is spiritually based. This can be either within religion or spirituality. This coach is drawn to develop skills like NLP, copywriting, intuition, and faith-based skills.
They want to be known for strategy but always have that backed up by intuition. The content style is usually focused on strategy while being backed up by inner guidance, ease, and flow.
Why you should never put yourself in a box when it comes to the coach you are.
I hope that hearing more about these specific 4 pillars of coaching can help you understand that there’s always a way to separate yourself from the rest. If you are technically a business coach, that doesn’t mean you have to change your label, just get more specific.
For example, if you took what I do into consideration, I’m technically a business coach. If we were to put ourselves in a box, plenty of online coaches would be considered just a business coach. Yet, we all approach what we do so differently.
It’s important to emphasize those differences and expand on the things you do differently than another coach. We are always taught to simply talk about the problem or pain-point of our client and then offer a solution. The problem with this is that many people forget to incorporate themselves into that.
You have to share and talk about yourself, otherwise, you will be seen as robotic and as another coach in the crowd. I encourage you to step into your unique method and get clear on it! Once you do, you’ll feel so much more aligned and energized.
You must stay in your lane, stay true to your secret sauce, and take into consideration the content you are putting out. Based on those 4 types of coaches I mentioned above, start thinking about which resonates with you most. Then, you can determine if your content is aligned with that as well.
What Type of Coach Are You & How to Promote Your Unique Method: Main Takeaways
You have to get clear on how you are different from the rest of the coaches out there and decide what your superpower is.
I encourage you to go back through this, listen to the episode again and pay attention to the skills/content mentioned for each type of coach.
