Coaching is an incredible service…so I’m sharing 3 tips to help you find the right coach in today’s episode! I’m hundred percent sure that you can benefit from it in one way or another no matter where you are on your business level and personal development. However, you must first find the perfect coach that is super compatible with you and your business.
This week on the #PrettyAwkward Entrepreneur Podcast, I’m sharing 3 tips you help YOU pick the best coach & coaching container for you. This came from my years of experience in the coaching world, but I want to remind you that not everything that happened to me may resonate with you and that’s okay. Remember to just trust your gut and intuition and take whatever action feels good for you.
Before we dive into my tips, let me introduce myself. My name is Megan Yelaney, and I have built two six-figure businesses and one multi-six-figure business by fully embracing my authentic self and not trying to hide the quirks that make me, ME.
So if you’re a female entrepreneur looking to learn, grow your business strategies and mindset, and scale your biz to multiple six figures while having fun doing it… you’re in the right place, girl! Because I made this podcast exactly for YOU!
And today, we’re talking about the 3 tips I have to help you be well-equipped when choosing what type of coach to invest in and knowing how to find the right coach for you.

There are many different kinds of coaching containers in the coaching world, but first, I’m going to touch on membership group programs and one-on-one coaching programs or mastermind programs.
Personally, I don’t recommend investing in a one-on-one coaching program especially for those girls who are just starting from scratch. I have seen a loooot of coaches who see one-one-one coaching as the one, ultimate truth, but it’s never gonna work if you’re not in alignment with it and you’re not mentally and financially prepared in your business.
I’m not saying though that all newbies will have 0% success rate in one-on-one coaching. I’ve seen new entrepreneurs who want to skyrocket their way through 6 figure income so they invested in one-on-one coaching and some actually succeeded. However, I don’t want you to immediately jump into that container without asking yourself the following questions:
So where do newbies go, you ask? That’s where membership programs come in. Personally, we have the #PrettyAwkwardPosse for online entrep newbies who want to start their journey towards 6 figures income. You get so much value from weekly life coaching threads, live monthly masterclasses, and so much MORE. And most coaching memberships will offer something with the same valuable inclusions.
Another level dedicated for beginner to intermediate stages is group coaching program. If you’ve been in the game for a couple of months and you want to take your business to the next level, but you’re not quite ready for one-on-one coaching, then this program is just the right option for you. Most of the coaching is done in groups but you still have the opportunity to connect with the coach as the number of members and coaching duration are strategically planned out. And I know how intimidating a coach can get sometimes, so group coaching can be an empowering move because you get to be with people who are on the same exact spot as you! You get the knowledge from your coach who has been there before, and you’ll have the support and understanding from your group who are actually at the same level as you. Plus, you’ll save extra bucks compared to one-on-one programs.
This podcast was created with YOU in mind. The female entrepreneur looking to learn, and grow your business strategies and mindset, to get your business off the ground and scale to multiple six figures and have fun doing it. To inspire and empower you to take the required action you’ve been putting off to create products and make sales.
Each week we will be covering topics that will help you start, grow and scale your business. Some topics that you can expect to be covered include:
I can’t wait to hear about what you learn, what makes you laugh, and what tips allow you to grow your business and brand as your authentic self.
Stay #prettyawkward.
Going on to the next level: the Mastermind. The mastermind that I am launching is intimate, with a maximum of ten women in the program. This is because I am a firm believer that just because someone can pay for the program doesn’t mean they can be in it. Mastermind is a deeper commitment that you have to make and in order to do so, you have to have an established messaging system in place. That’s why I have an income requirement within my mastermind program. Again, this is a bigger commitment. So if you are already earning a steady $5k a month, you’re already thinking bigger and you’re also empowered to make a bigger impact. This is a level of thinking that takes months, even years, to achieve.
I know it’s easy to get tempted by the incredible experience that masterminds can offer, but you have to respect the process, you have to be rational, and you have to have the process mindset in order to succeed in a mastermind program. Remember, my goal is to stretch you not stress you.
Mastermind for me also offers an incredible opportunity to work with amazing women who are going to be with you through your struggles, mindset blocks, and breakthroughs. Each of you in the group is gonna offer diverse experiences and each of you will definitely learn from one another. You are going to hear powerful perspectives that could give you an entire mindset shift.
Now, what I shared for each level is definitely my own truth, and obviously, others can have their own lived experience. So what I experienced will not be necessarily true for everyone. You can choose one-on-one coaching even if you’re just starting out if you feel that you have the capacity to do so. For some, they may feel the going into debt for coaching is worth it while others may totally disagree. My thoughts about this if you ask me is it’s all about personal decision. You have to question your decisions every step of the way. I have seen a looot of biz owners who take higher-level of commitment just because they have FOMO (y’know, Fomo? Fear of missing out?). My advice to you is to slow down a bit, take a break from the hustle-and-bustle of social media, and let your inner wisdom speak to you. You already know deep inside what is the best coaching container, you just have to hold space for your inner guidance.

Connect, grow, and scale your business to 6-Figures. Awkwardly.
Of course it’s important to find a coach who you aspire to be, right? You want to achieve the success that they are already experiencing, so you want to learn from them. But it’s more important to find a coach whose systems and lifestyles match with your aspirations. Say they are making consistent 10k a month, but are they working with more or less hours? Do you like how they show up with their people? Are you in alignment with their messaging and core values? Do you work well with their leadership style? These factors are much more essential in finding the right coaches compared to their income level. There will be a lot of people who will be in the same income level, but the way they worked through that level will vary entirely.
With that said, the most important thing to consider is your ability to build a genuine connection with your coach. I’m not saying you have to be besties, but at least build a relationship where you can tell your coach what went wrong in your day even if it’s not entirely a business-related situation. My good friend Mark would always say that a business problem is usually not a business problem. It’s something else happening in your life. Your coach can throw every strategy on the coaching world but she won’t be able to help you grow unless she gets the context on your environment, the current mindset blocks your experiencing, and the limiting beliefs you subscribe with. If you’re not comfortable enough to share your one shitty day to your coach, might as well find a new one.
So the next time you’re looking for a coach, instead of asking “Have they made the money I want to make?”, ask the following instead:
Use these questions to really assess your compatibility with your potential coach. And if most of your answers are NO, then better take a step back and find someone who can serve you better. Otherwise, it’ll be a huge disservice to you and your potential coach.
I truly believe that coaching is the most transformative thing that can happen to you and your business. It’s been so invaluable and its effectiveness is tested by years of challenges in the coaching world. Coaching can be your most effective tool all throughout your business career because there are multiple coaching containers out there that is suitable for your needs. And I just want to reiterate time and time again, the decision on the best coach and coaching container is etched within you. Just ask the right questions and your inner self will guide you towards the right path.
And as always, stay safe, stay healthy and stay #PrettyAwkward!
