The Strategic Approach To Coaching
In this episode of The #PrettyAwkward Entrepreneur Podcast, I am taking a deep dive into the strategic approach to coaching. If you haven’t already, I’d recommend listening to episodes 90 and 91 before you listen to this one.
In those episodes, I give an overall introduction to the four types of coaching methods. In this episode, I’m focusing on the strategic approach to coaching. This is the logical, data-driven, and evidence-based method. Whether or not you identify as this type of coach, I know you will get a lot of great information from this episode that will help you and your clients!
But before we dive in, let me introduce myself. My name is Megan Yelaney, and I have built two six-figure businesses and one multi-six-figure business by fully embracing my authentic self and not trying to hide the quirks that make me, ME.
So if you’re a female entrepreneur looking to learn, grow your business strategies and mindset, and scale your biz to multiple six figures while having fun doing it…you’re in the right place, girl! Because I made this podcast exactly for YOU!
And today we are talking all about the strategic approach to coaching and what makes it unique. For all the details, listen to the entire episode on your favorite streaming platform!

Characteristics of the strategic coaching approach.
If you take a strategic approach to coaching, you achieve results for your clients based on research.
You are logical and data-driven.
You help clients solve problems first by looking at what strategy they use to get to this problem in the first place and reverse engineer the steps they need to move forward.
You are very attracted to formulas.
If you are big on wanting your clients to implement the steps you tell them, you’re likely a strategic coach.

Marketing yourself as a strategic coach.
With whatever coaching approach you use, it’s important to market yourself in that way.
This will help you stand out from other coaches and avoid confusion and resistance with clients.
If you market yourself more as a strategic coach, for example, but you actually take more of a spiritual approach with clients, they will be confused and resistant to the things you’re trying to implement. You want to ensure that your clients get exactly what they signed up for with you.
If you are a strategic coach, a lot of your content will be focused on providing information, how-to and step-by-step guides, and practical implementation.
Be sure to infuse this style into your content often!

How different coaching styles approach the same content.v
What’s so cool about the unique coaching types is that people can take the same content but come at it in entirely different ways.
A strategic coach will focus on how-to, step-by-step, and thorough explanations. One example of this is from my friend, Shannon Lutz. She made a post on Instagram about how to increase your prices. It’s super detailed and such a shareable piece of content – this is a PERFECT example of a strategic approach to content.
A coach with a mindset approach, on the other hand, would take this same concept and approach it from a different perspective. They might create a post about the mental blocks that stop people from charging more for their services and how to overcome those blocks.
Another example is from my friend Eve Guzman. She is a macronutrient coach and a great example of someone who takes a strategic approach. She made a post on Instagram about macro terminology.
In the post, she defines nutrition terms and explains them with math and helpful visuals. Again, it’s very saveable and packed with information.
A coach with a mindset approach might take this same content but focus more on the results of understanding macronutrients in a person’s life. They might talk more about how they were so overwhelmed before understanding macros, but once they began to understand and implement the science, their lives became easier.
The last example I want to share with you is from Evelyn Huynh. She is a spiritual evolution coach. She normally takes more of a spiritual approach to coaching, but I did find a great example of a post from her on Instagram that is taking a more strategic approach to a spiritual or mindset issue.
She created a post about the motivation wave. In the post, she has a chart and explains how to take advantage of moments of a motivational peak. Evelyn is a great example of someone who explains spiritual/mindset content from a strategic vantage point.
Remember that your unique method is the lens you go about solving a problem, not the problem itself.
If you take a strategic approach, that doesn’t mean you’re necessarily helping people with strategy.

The Strategic Approach To Coaching: The Bottomline
More than likely, you’ll use a combination of approaches in your coaching, but whatever you most naturally gravitate toward is your primary unique method. When you’re able to identify your unique method, I want you to aim to infuse it into at least 50% of your content. Owning your method will help you stand out and attract the right clients for you.
To help you identify your unique method, I’ve created a FREE masterclass! The video and slideshows are available to you as soon as you sign up, so get started, girl! Grab this free class here.
