Tara is the founder and CEO of Profitable Podcast Productions, where they focus on helping online coaches and course creators market and develop a holistic podcast. They aim to help podcasters grow a profitable podcast that will support and complement their business strategy.
Tara shares that she originally got started in entrepreneurship in a similar way I had, through Network Marketing. Tara was craving to do her own thing and step into her own unique coaching method. She wanted to embrace who she was and share it with the world, and she ultimately found herself in the podcasting space.
Before the podcasting space, Tara was in Network Marketing and had discovered this space on the internet for coaching.
She went on to join a blogging and Pinterest course while being in Network Marketing, but she felt restricted. She was a hard worker and doing all the things but not finding the success she envisioned. She wanted to think about how she could do Network Marketing differently, so she did start her own personal brand.
Tara also had launched her first podcast, at this time she had no experience or knowledge. As Tara started her own podcast, she began to have many friends approach her wanting guidance and advice. This got her thinking about how she could use her podcast for her business.
Tara had finally realized she was meant to be in the podcasting space and dove all in when she had a friend hire her on to help her grow her podcast. Tara went on and made a full business model around podcasting and sold over $8,000 worth of services in 24 hours. This was the validation Tara needed and her podcasting business has been growing ever since!
Tara mentions that not aligning their podcast content with their business is probably the number one mistake she sees other podcasters making.
There’s often a lot of interviews or content that detracts from their messaging because they redirect their audience to so many places. The content creation and purpose of the podcast is often misunderstood.
The other mistake Tara sees is focusing on download numbers. It can be upsetting for a lot of people when they see a low amount of download numbers, but when you use a holistic approach to podcasting, download numbers don’t matter.
The bottom line with your podcast should be the connection and moving your listeners along a journey.
Another mistake is simply not starting a podcast.
Some people assume they need a huge audience or massive platform to make a podcast worthwhile for their time. She also mentions focusing on paid sponsorships as being another mistake. For Tara, she believes there is time and place for them but it shouldn’t be the goal of your podcast.
You can make income so much faster in other ways than paid sponsorships. Tara’s advice for anyone debating on starting a podcast is to think about this question – If you can create content that deeply connects people and moves them more quickly through getting to know, like, and trust you, why would you spend your time anywhere else? With a podcasting platform, people are so much more likely to buy when they hear your voice.
If you are someone who loves writing blogs or Instagram posts, you can still do that and be intentional with that content. She encourages others to create content in a way that will connect with people the most. When you are in people’s earbuds week after week, they will buy from you SO much quicker, whereas it may take 10,000 blog posts to build that same connection.
Tara shares that for anyone who wants to jump into podcasting and outsourcing, they must determine whether they have a product suite or multiple levels of offers available.
For example, if you have a high ticket offer with a low barrier of entry option, this can be used to promote on the podcast and drive revenue. She also recommends that you establish who you are talking to on the podcast.
Once you have these things sorted out, you can move into podcasting and outsource to leverage your time in front of the microphone.
If you are craving the ability to make more with less work, podcasting is a great solution for you, especially outsourcing it.
I couldn’t agree more with Tara, I have to say that the level her team helps me with my podcast is amazing. All I do is record and they handle the rest.
Tara shares that this comes from wanting to serve that level of client, she wants to make their words echo through the internet.
This is insanely helpful because it leaves you only having to worry about creating that impactful content. If you are focused on the content itself rather than the tasks after, you will be showing up way more powerfully online.
A lot of times CEOs, especially in the coaching space, can get so weighed down by all these tasks we have to do to keep things running smoothly. This takes away time from connecting with our audience and being thoughtful with our content.
That’s where production can help you, and a management company like Tara’s. This allows you to focus solely on the content. As long as that’s recorded and done powerfully, Tara’s team can make the most out of it and handle the rest!
I hope this episode and learning more about Tara’s work in the podcasting space was inspiring for you. If you’ve ever found yourself wondering whether podcasting is for you. Tara shares that whether you consider yourself strategic or not, always be intentional of where you put the time in your business.
Time is the only resource you can never get back, and if you can invest your time into something that will allow your words to echo through the internet while reaching more people, don’t be afraid to explore that.
I have loved my whole experience working with Tara and her team. I also truly love podcasting and I’m so glad I implemented it into my business. I encourage you to give it a shot and see what it can do for your business. I promise it’ll be a game-changer!
And as always, stay safe, stay healthy, and stay #PrettyAwkward!
I have helped HUNDREDS of women get their unique coaching voice and find their soulmate (clients that is!)
Because I’ve been there too. I went from wanting to be a health and fitness coach...trying to take awkward booty pooping selfies, to embracing my #prettyawkward style and scaling my coaching business past six figures.
