Before we get too far into the episode, I wanted Jaymie to share her own journey to doing all the awesome things she does. Her story begins when Jaymie was working as a marketing director and stumbled upon a YouTube video featuring Marie Forleo. That’s when Jaymie heard Marie say, “If you want to make something happen badly enough, you will figure out a way.”?
?Jaymie decided she wanted to be able to do what Marie does and have her own business. So Jamie quit her job, started her own biz, and threw herself into social media management, content writing and SEO…and, eventually, one of her clients gave her $500 and told Jaymie to try out Facebook ads.
Weeks later, Jaymie had turned that $500 into 200+ plus leads for the client’s companies, which ended up resulting in 67K of sales. And that was when Jaymie had her “aha moment” of just how powerful ads can be. So she just decided to go all in and help as many people as she could with ads. And a few years later, she now works exclusively with coaches and consultants.
This podcast was created with YOU in mind. The female entrepreneur looking to learn, and grow your business strategies and mindset, to get your business off the ground and scale to multiple six figures and have fun doing it. To inspire and empower you to take the required action you’ve been putting off to create products and make sales.
Each week we will be covering topics that will help you start, grow and scale your business. Some topics that you can expect to be covered include:
I can’t wait to hear about what you learn, what makes you laugh, and what tips allow you to grow your business and brand as your authentic self.
Stay #prettyawkward
It was hard for Jaymie to say exactly when someone should be using Facebook ads. However, if you already have something that’s converting well for your business – like a sales funnel setup that you’re putting out on social media and people are organically going through – that’s a great time to use ads. Why? Because you can just feed that fire and scale it up.
But even if you don’t have highly converting content, ads can still be very useful for newer business owners. If you’re a SUPER brand new business owner still figuring everything out, going straight to ads is probably going to be not the best fit. But if you’ve worked with some clients and you feel good about your sales process, ads can be a good idea to get some momentum going. What Jaymie always recommends is initially using ads to get people onto your email list and generate new leads because that will eventually lead to sales. That’s also the best way you can use your money when you’re just getting started and want a tangible return where you can easily see how successful the campaign was.
I majorly agree with Jaymie when it comes to converting first, advertising second. In fact, I’m really a believer in testing products or a sales funnel with your own audience organically first and seeing how that converts before using it with an ad.
I know from first-hand experience how easy it is to make crucial mistakes with Facebook ads and end up wasting a lot of money. That’s when I asked Jaymie to share the most common mistakes she sees people make when it comes to running ads!
So when you do decide to jump into the Facebook ad game, be aware of and avoid these four missteps:
The mindset piece is a big piece of ads. After all, running ads means investing money into your business, and that can trigger a LOT of emotions. And so when you’re into ads, Jaymie recommends being prepared to not make your money back right away. But you should be able to see whether things are working for you within a reasonable amount of time – say, a week or two. And then in terms of getting an ROI, it’s realistically a 30-to-60 day thing because it just takes tweaking and testing to figure out what’s the right audience and messaging.
And just to remember: any money you spend, you’re collecting data and you’re figuring out what’s working, what’s not and why, and that’s so, so valuable. That’s not money wasted.
Personally, Jaymie loves video ads and thinks it’s one of the best forms of content you can put out right now. She wouldn’t say that you have to use video by any means. It’s just a matter of testing which is more appealing to your audience. Also, keep in mind that images can be more powerful to get people to sign up for something or take action because videos can distract people from clicking through. But when it comes to retargeting, video builds trust more quickly and powerfully than anything else.
As for Instagram ads, again, the success of it depends on your audience and account. But Jaymie will typically run ads on both Facebook and Instagram for new clients and just see where the ad performs best.
The most important thing is to not assume that one platform won’t perform well because you could be missing out on a huge audience. With her clients, Jaymie often sees people so obsessed with the fun aspects of Instagram that they forget there are plenty of people who want their service who are on Facebook.
And the other thing we have to remember with Facebook versus Instagram is that Facebook been around for longer and they’ve had ads on their platform for a lot longer. So people are a little bit more used to them, and that can make traffic convert better on Facebook ads. So even if your audience on Instagram, more people might opt in or buy from the Facebook platform.

(Um, FINALLY!)
Connect, grow, and scale your business to 6-Figures. Awkwardly.
When I asked Jaymie the biggest takeaway she hopes people get from this episode, it was this: take a look at your business and see what’s working organically. Who is it that’s buying from you? Which one of your freebies is performing the highest? Look at what’s already working for you, probably organically. And then decide if it’s worth putting a lot more fuel into that.
I know that running Facebook ads is a bit of an overwhelming subject for some people, myself included. But Jaymie is such a master at breaking down this complex subject into bite-sized pieces, so I hope you take advantage of all the takeaways and tips she offers in this episode and that Facebook ads start to feel a little less intimidating by the time you finish listening.
