Why Video Series Are Blowing Up Right Now (+ How to Start One)

“You still can be seen as an authority while documenting how you’re doing something in real time.”

If content has been feeling harder than it should… this might be the shift you need.

People don’t just want to just learn from you anymore. They want to watch you.

In this episode, I’m breaking down why video series are quietly outperforming nearly every other type of content right now—and how you can use them to grow your audience, build trust faster, and actually convert viewers into clients.
This isn’t about creating more content.
It’s about creating the right kind of content.

Topics covered in this podcast episode:

  • Why polished, “perfect” content is losing to raw, real storytelling
  • What most people get wrong about video series content
  • How AI is changing what people trust (and what they don’t)
  • The 3 types of video series (and which one is easiest to start)
  • How to build trust in your process—not just your expertise
  • Why documenting your journey can convert better than teaching
  • Real client examples + the results they’re getting
  • Where to start to create your own activating video series

With video series like the examples I shared (and linked below), your people get to know you—the person behind the expertise. These series build trust fast while growing your audience.

Pick whichever type of video series you can actually commit to right now and start to test it out! And know that… these series only work if you know your angle.

Don’t know yours? I’ve got just the thing for you ⤵️

TRANSCRIPT

Megan Yelaney:

Welcome back to business. Not as usual. Don’t ask me. I don’t know why I started that way, but we are. I’m actually like looking at a fairy tale right now. Like I’m living in a fairy tale the minute I’m recording this. Because I’m at my mom’s and I’m looking out a window to her backyard and there’s a family of deer hanging out. So I feel like I’m in Bambi.

Megan Yelaney:

It’s so beautiful. It’s so peaceful. And a mile away is a beach. It’s like just such a Zen, Zen area. So that’s, that’s the energy I’m bringing. Even though this is a very strategy shift topic, we’re going to talk about feeling fill in the Zen, which I needed after today. It was one of those like wasting of time days where you’re on a lot of customer service lines for no reason and unnecessary like, okay, I didn’t actually get my answer. So you know what I’m talking about.

Megan Yelaney:

So I’m like, I needed this Zen ness to record this episode to kind of put me back in that. In that lane. So just picture this right now, Bambi, outside my window as I record this. All right. I wanted to record an episode about video series because this is something that my clients have and myself have really been diving into and seeing so much traction with. I made a post about this that I’ll also link and I’m gonna. And I’m gonna not embellish. That’s not the word.

Megan Yelaney:

I’m going to expand. That’s the word I was looking for. I’m gonna expand on it because it. I got a lot of messages from that video or that that post as a carousel post and questions and, and how do I like implement this and for my business and things like that. So I want to talk to you about why video series are so powerful right now and then some steps on actually how to implement it. So I’m obviously. Well, not obviously. Maybe you’re listening to this for the first time.

Megan Yelaney:

Hi, my name is Meg. I’m running a video series building back to 100 the road back to 100k cash months now. My video series is a little un in the sense that it doesn’t really have. I mean, it has an end. I mean it has an end when I reach that. Right. But it doesn’t have a date. Right.

Megan Yelaney:

It doesn’t have a timeline where most do. And I do recommend having a series where most have some semblance of a timeline, whether it’s an actual like 30 days as I do this thing. Or the goal is going to be achieved relatively in a. Not quick but in a specified time. Or it’s one of those things that like, hey, I’m sharing. Actually one of my clients is just started this. She’s sharing. I’ll link her Instagram below because I think it’s going to be a.

Megan Yelaney:

I know it’s going to be a very juicy one to watch. I’m very excited personally for this. But it’s called off the record Ethics and morals of the coaching industry. She’s a 15 plus year therapist turned business coach and when we were talking about what series she should do and this came up, I was like 10 out of 10. This is it. This is what you need to do. It’s juicy and it’s coming from a therapist perspective. So this is an example of a series that there’s not necessarily like a timeline that she’s doing.

Megan Yelaney:

Like, it’s not a 30 day countdown. It’s going to be more, hey, I’m committing to these videos. Let’s see how it does. Let’s see how I like it. And she can kind of end it when she wants. Right. But it’s going to be a regular series that she’s going to do every few days, maybe once a week, kind of flowing with the actual like structure. It doesn’t have to be so detailed.

Megan Yelaney:

But that’s a really good example. Another good example is one that I did. Gosh, can’t believe I’m saying this. Like almost. No, not almost two years ago, but a year and a half ago. I was exclusively pumping for my twin boys. Wow. Feels like a lifetime ago.

Megan Yelaney:

And I was weaning off of that. And because I had gotten up to such a large supply, I had to really wean carefully. I couldn’t just like basically wean for those who aren’t familiar because I didn’t know what any of this meant until I was doing it is instead of just like stop pumping cold turkey, I had to slowly reduce my output because otherwise it would be very painful. I would have gotten infections and probably what they, what they call clogged ducts and very painful situations. So I was, and I had experienced a lot of that during my pumping experience. It was not pleasurable at all. It was a very hard experience. So I knew I’m going to follow this and I’m going to do it slowly and I’m going to take my people along the journey.

Megan Yelaney:

I have an account called Magda’s twinmotherhood. I have sadly neglected it. I do want to ramp it back up, but I at the time was very, very active on that. It was before I was really back with clients and I was doing a daily series. Come with me. As I weaned from Pumping and that series really grew my page and I figured it would be about a 30 day series. But we knew the end was coming. Every video it was like less and less milk.

Megan Yelaney:

I was producing, I was sharing how much I produced, how much less, how I was feeling, emotionally, physically, products I was using. And so they came to the end. Another example that I didn’t even realize I was doing this as I was like I was do. I wasn’t doing it as a series. It was more just like what I was sharing on that same account. I was sharing every single day up until my twins were born at about, I would say 30, 38 weeks. It was a. About a month because they were born at 39 weeks.

Megan Yelaney:

When were they born? 39 and one day, something like that. Almost. Almost full term, like fully. Which is crazy for twins. And so I did for about a month. I posted a daily vlog leading up. And so that was obviously there’s an end point when I give birth which is going to be within that month. So all this to say the, the like approach you take to the series doesn’t matter in.

Megan Yelaney:

In the sense that you can have a timeline, you could do 30 days of XYZ, eight weeks of XYZ or it can be kind of open ended like that. However, the open endedness, you know, is going to happen in a timeline that is pretty predictable. Mine that I’m doing, it’s predictable in a sense, but it’s also not because I’m building back to a hundred K cash months in an extremely different way than I used to when I hit that number before. And because of that it could happen in a couple months, it could happen in six, it could happen in a year. And I have some very strict boundaries in place. I’m not working more than 30 hours, ideally less. I have certain schedules and things that I can and can’t take on certain amount of clients. Like there’s a lot I’m working with boundary wise.

Megan Yelaney:

So it might be a longer series than a normal series I would do and I do as I say, not as I do. I don’t actually recommend doing the series I’m doing because of the unendedness. The series examples that I’m going to share with you and I’m going to link all three of these. Well, four, because Lauren as well, I’m going to link four client examples who are actively doing a series right now in the show Notes so you can see them live. But these are really, really helping my clients. So why do a series? Well, one, what is working really well right now on social media and dare I say, like just anywhere, but especially if you’re doing short form is more Day in the life is more. Come with me as I do, watch me as I do kind of series almost like your little reality show, right? People love that. They love feeling like they’re part of something.

Megan Yelaney:

They love seeing behind the scenes, like pull back the curtain, show us how the sausage is made kind of vibe, right? They want to see that. And when you can provide a little bit of a peek in there, it’s relatable, it feels like real. And the reason that’s so important now is because of AI and because anyone can produce educational type of content, anyone can seem like an expert, right? And it’s hard to tell. And so when you are actually pulling back the curtain and sharing that, you’re also showing your process at points. It depends. I’m going to share one series that’s not showing a process but showing very much this person’s values and personality. Which is a huge reason people buy from you, right? So think about that. Why do people buy from you, right? They buy from you for a few reasons.

Megan Yelaney:

They buy because they trust you as a person. They trust and like you as a person. They’re probably connected to you in some way, they have some similarity with you. They trust that you have a process that they haven’t fully tried yet in the way that you teach it. So they need to try that, right? They trust in the process and usually they trust in that because you’re showing yourself going through it or you’re showing clients going through it, hence why a video series of yourself going through it is great. And they trust in the actual solution. So I probably should do the order differently. They trust in you, they trust in the solution.

Megan Yelaney:

They trust in your specific way of doing the solution. For example, you could have two business coaches that both do launching, right? And one business coach does very front facing social launching content, another does very more behind the scenes collaboration led content. Both are launching but their method, their approach is quite different, right? So you buy into the process or sorry, you buy into the the launching as the offer, let’s say, and you buy into one person’s social front facing and then the others more behind the scenes collaboration as the process, right? So trust in you, trust in the offer, and then trust in the process. They need to have those three specific things to feel like, okay, I’m going to actually buy from this person. So a video series is such a great way to actually show that you’re literally saying, hey, look, I’m the thing. Here’s how I do the thing. Watch me as I do this, right? When you come into my program, here’s how you can experience it. And so instead of just doing that, like when you’re promoting or when you’re in launch, you can literally take them on a journey.

Megan Yelaney:

Right. And so that is so important right now, like if you have the. I don’t even want to say have the capacity because I think this can actually be way easier than a lot of other content. And I’m going to share a specific example in a minute as to why. Now, the editing could be a little bit tricky. But I also want to remind you, like, yes, a video series is obviously video. It doesn’t just have to be face to camera. The one I’m going to share with Lauren’s is face to camera.

Megan Yelaney:

Mine is a mixture. My client Kim, who I’m going to show you, hers is a mostly B roll and hers is very easy for her to create. Editing is a little bit more involved, but the actual creation is so simple and well, to a point, you’ll understand that in a second. Another is a lot of B roll clips, some face to camera and another is kind of a mixture. Right? So you can totally mixture. You can have just face to camera. You can have B roll with voiceover. So if you’re like not super comfortable face to camera, but you want to do a bunch of B roll of voiceover, you totally can do that.

Megan Yelaney:

Or you can just do face to camera. Right. So there’s so many different versions that you can do. What is easiest for you. What is going to be something you can stick to, what are you excited about and what kind of lends itself best to what you’re talking about. Right. So even for my. Let’s the example of the Weaning, the Weaning series, I did mostly face to camera after I would pump and I would show them the actual pump, the actual milk.

Megan Yelaney:

When I was doing my build up to the twins coming, I never call them the twins. That was weird. I don’t like calling them that. It’s funny. That’s really funny. My sons, my son’s being born, I did pretty much all B roll with voiceover and just clips. Of me. I mean, also think about it visually, my belly was quite large.

Megan Yelaney:

So like watching that was entertaining for people. So think about that. Like, as silly as that sounds like, think about the visuals and what you’re using. Kim’s is a really good example of this. Okay, so those are a couple of reasons why this is doing so, so well for people. Now let’s dive into a little bit of the how so when it comes to video series. There’s three ish types of series. The ones that I’m going to share with you really are Come with me.

Megan Yelaney:

And a little bit of the belief building. So first one is belief building series. The purpose of this is to break what I like to call and I didn’t create this term, you can look this up online. I think Russell Brunson was one of the first people to coin it. He might have gotten it from someone else. The domino belief. So break the domino belief blocking your buyer. So basically, what is the main limiting belief your client has that you need to overcome? Right, so some examples, things I used to believe about X that were keeping me stuck.

Megan Yelaney:

X being your topic. Y common advice actually backfires for my clients. So pick something that they’re constantly told. Right, Backfires for your clients. The second one. So that’s belief building. Pretty simple, pretty straightforward. Now you can literally do things I used to believe about X that were keeping me stuck.

Megan Yelaney:

Part one, video one, video two. And then each, each video can have a separate subtitle. Right? So that’s the main title. And then each video has a different subtopic. The second, the Method in Motion series. The purpose is to make your framework feel real without actually teaching it fully. So example, here’s what I look for in a client before we ever talk strategy, why this step always comes before popular tactics. So something that they think they need to do.

Megan Yelaney:

A mistake I see after people learn what industry skill. So put an industry skill in there. A mistake I see after people learn the specific industry skill. So it’s more so you sharing like here’s the myths, here’s the mistakes. Part one, two, three. Right. Mistake one, mistake two, mistake three, et cetera. Right.

Megan Yelaney:

So that’s kind of like showing your process in motion, really making your framework the star of the show. And then the third is the more popular, I think the easiest. And it still does show your framework in certain ways depending on the series. Come with me as right. So come with me as I turn 40 and make it the best glow up year of my life. I have a client who’s Starting that, come with me as I wean from pumping for 30 days. Come with me as I go on a cut for eight weeks. My goal is 10 pounds down.

Megan Yelaney:

Right? So ask yourself a couple questions. What do people misunderstand about my work? What do clients say was the missing piece before working with me? What belief needs to shift before someone buys? Really think through those three questions and that probably will give you a little bit of a hint as to which one you should pick. But I would say the majority of the people that I work with the easiest is the come with me as series and the hardest in the sense of vulnerability of like showing your own process. Pick one, commit to like five to seven videos and have fun with this. Have fun with this. You don’t need to be crazy like me and do this big grandiose goal that makes you want to throw up every day as you share it. Okay, so some specifics, let’s get into it. A couple people that I have or something like I’m just seeing across the board and this is in the post that I, I, I’m going to link below for you.

Megan Yelaney:

Anyone who commits to this, they’re or like posting, posting these kinds of series, they’re outperforming and getting more followers than like really perfect curated content, even branded content. And I say that because I think there’s this, still this. I don’t know if it’s a stigma, specifically with Instagram where it has to look a certain way, right? And I am seeing it over and over again as I’m studying content, as I’m looking at clients content, as I’m just scrolling, looking for hooks. I’m seeing the more natural, real, raw, authentic, like just kind of interrupting your screen, your scroll, that being what people actually want. Right? Again, they’re kind of sick of the AI feel like of so much of the content. And they love that real and raw behind the scenes, like take me with you kind of energy. And one thing I want to say here before I dive into the specific ones that I’m going to link below for you, you still can be seen as an authority while documenting how you’re doing something in real time, especially if you’re showing how your process is the catalyst to get you there. So a good example is my 100k cash series.

Megan Yelaney:

Most of my clients who are in my main signature program are not billing to that number right now. It’s going to be far beyond where they are and their, their goal right now. But definitely something maybe they’d aspire to in the future. But a lot of what I am doing to get there is like a magnitude of the process I teach in my program. Right. It’s like 10xing that. So one of the things I’m really going to start doing as I’m moving forward is showing how aspects of my program I am like doubling down on and using for example Framework story. There’s those specific, those two specific things are things I’m like magnifying in this in the next two months as I am building back up to that.

Megan Yelaney:

And so I’ll be able to relate back to that and go this helped me get there. Like my actual process is part of what is going to help me get there in addition to some like extraneous things. Okay, so first example that I break down in this post and that I will link below is my amazing client Mary. She’s a healthcare worker who decided to document leaving her career in real time. And the cool part is she’s a life and health coach. So as she’s documenting her own transition, she’s kind of walking through the exact same process that she takes on with her clients. And she’s helping clients now get ready to leave healthcare or not be burnt out from healthcare. So recover and thrive in it or actually explore leaving.

Megan Yelaney:

That’s the life coaching part of it, right? And the cool thing about this series is people didn’t just watch her leave, they watched her coach herself out of out of it. Like showing the behind the scenes. A lot of her videos are more B roll. Come with me as but there’s definitely some of those, those more face to camera talks and hot topic kind of things. Specifically talking to rad text because that’s who she’s targeting. She has gained a thousand followers in about a month from I think exactly a month. Yep, March 8th to April 6th. So less technically less than a month.

Megan Yelaney:

A thousand followers, over 600,000 views in 10 days. She had a burst. So she definitely had more than this. I didn’t ask her about her month subscriber count. I should have asked her. But she had 120 people join her email list in 10 days. Almost every single post she’s doing is getting many, many, many comments for her actual program. And she is already at 7,000 in sales for the month and it’s I think the 13th as I’m recording this.

Megan Yelaney:

So she is well on her way to hitting her goal this month. And I’m not saying it’s all from this series. Obviously she’s done a lot. I always like to give context she’s done a lot of groundwork before. Her story is locked in, her framework is locked in, all that stuff. But this series really took off for her. It’s really hitting and it feels so good to like, almost, almost guarantee that like everything she talks about within the series is going to do well because it’s so targeted to a very specific person at a very specific time in life and it’s hitting. So again, she is showing her process, especially the life coaching part of it.

Megan Yelaney:

So if she, people want to sign up for her life coaching part of her program, they’re seeing her do it in real time. She is proof of her process. So that’s huge. The next one is Shea, my amazing client. Shay, she’s a nutrition coach documenting her own cut journey while rebuilding her business as a new mom. So same thing happening here with Mary. She’s going through the exact steps she takes her clients through the check ins, the mindset resets, the like, oh my gosh, this is so much harder than I expected kind of moments. So you’re not just watching her figure it out, you’re watching her progress program work in real time.

Megan Yelaney:

It’s like, hey, I’m going on this cut journey. Watch me as I do it. And she’s sharing like she just posted a post how she lost five, five pounds in, I don’t know how much time it was. I should go to it and look at it. But in, in the most recent like version of her, of her cut, right. And it’s perfect timing because she has a free event coming up and she’s getting, she has already in the two days that she started promoting. I need to check in with her and see where she’s at now. She had 65 signups for her, her program or for her, her free event in literally two days of announcing it.

Megan Yelaney:

And I think a huge part is due to the traction and the interaction from the series, them seeing her actually implement this. And again, I want you to remember like she’s a health coach and she has a real life and real stuff happen. And so just because she’s a health coach doesn’t mean she’s not going to do a cut from time to time. Right. And so I just say that because I think so many people get so nervous like I have to be perfect and if I, if I need to tell people I’m going to do a cut, they’re going to look at me like, well, why would I trust you if you’re not keeping your weight exactly the same? Quite the opposite is Happening, literally, quite the opposite. No one expects you to be perfect in that way. So I want you to just remember that. Cause I know that’s a huge limiting belief that people have.

Megan Yelaney:

Kim is kind of a different kind of series. Amazing client. Love Kim. She is a macro nutrition coach specifically for corporate women, but she is a very different kind of series. So she, again, macro nutrition coach for corporate women, but she’s been openly documenting her IVF journey. Not directly related to macros or fitness, obviously, but just like her life and what she is specifically going through now. Her, when we were talking about this series, like, she really wanted to start sharing this journey and said, you know, I want to document it also for just her own sake. Right.

Megan Yelaney:

And it’s. I think it’s been really therapeutic and healing for her because it’s. It’s a very vulnerable thing to share, right. And one thing she’s doing that I think is really cool is she’s setting up her tripod. I’m gonna link one of the videos so you can see she’s setting up her tripod and just letting it go as she’s doing her shots. And she’s documenting or capturing all. Everything. She’s capturing all the moments with her husband.

Megan Yelaney:

She’s capturing her yelling at the. The scene computer with the instructions. And when the woman pisses her off, she’s like talking to her dog. Like, you see the gamut of emotions, right? And so the cool thing is she just like, has that for her own self too. That’s how I felt totally about documenting my journey for getting the. Getting the boys once I became pregnant with the boys. And then also just documenting being a twin mom. I’m like, you know, even if I never do anything with this account or I shut it down, I have all of this.

Megan Yelaney:

These videos of a time that, like, I do want to remember and look back at this, right? So all that to be said, she’s just recording one take and then going and cutting it and getting the blips. So, yes, she’s got to watch it and go through it, and that’s going to take some time. But the actual recording is so simple, sets it up. She’s not doing a million clips. It’s literally one clip that she goes and cuts, right? So so far she has gained 88 new followers and probably more than this because I haven’t checked in with her since a little bit ago. 38,000 views and a loyalty with her audience that no content strategy can create. Like, this is so real. And this goes to that first point of buying.

Megan Yelaney:

People buy from people they feel connected to who are real humans. So the people that she is gaining, the followers she’s gaining are very targeted and going to be very loyal followers and are going to be way more likely to hire her as their macro coach over someone else. This not going through this hands down, because this is such a vulnerable, like, specific thing that she is going through that other women who. Who don’t go through it, they can’t understand, right? So if they’re going to pick someone to work with, they’re going to pick someone who gets it. I can’t tell you how many times I have that with people who are like, your relationship or your transition to motherhood. Like, I need to work with someone who understands how hard that part of it is, whatever it is, right? So this is something she’s doing so beautifully and vulnerably. And I just. I’m going to link it below because, man, it’s just.

Megan Yelaney:

It’s very inspirational. And I also want to just give a nod to her because it doesn’t. It takes guts, I think, sometimes, to go outside of your direct niche, but when you know you’re going to bring your people in, like, it’s. There’s still women in that. That world who want to get healthier, right? Who want to lose weight, want to feel good, like, all of that, of course. So her, she’s kind of indirectly bringing them in, but through a topic that’s going to so deeply connect them with her way quicker than anything else, honestly, anything else. That’s where they’re going to connect an aside. Really quick moment.

Megan Yelaney:

I think I’ve had now eight women go through my TDE program who are twin moms. I mean, it’s not a ton compared to the amount of people I’ve had go through the program, but, like, 3% of the population is twins. That’s like. It’s. That’s like a lot of people, right? Like eight people. I’m starting to literally attract twin moms. I’m not going to niche down to twin mom business owners, but, like, it just shows again. They’re gonna connect with me as their mentor more than someone who’s not.

Megan Yelaney:

And I know that’s very specific, but it’s literally true. And I’ve seen it, seen it happen. So I love the series. Think outside the box. Not every single thing you do on Your page has to 247 be related, directly related to your business. And I bet you it is. It’s easy to weave it back because business is personal. Remember that.

Megan Yelaney:

Okay, so again, there are, well, there’s three main series I went through, but there’s two ways to run a Come with me as and I kind of just recapped it. But to button this up, version one is document something you’re personally going through using your own method. Like Mary and Shay using your actual own method so they can see the proof that the method works. Right. They get a front row seat to what it looks like to work with you. Version two, document something personal that isn’t directly connected to how you coach but would still resonate with a lot of your audience. Right? Your people get to know you, the person behind the expertise. Both build trust fast and both build an audience.

Megan Yelaney:

So pick whichever one you can actually commit to right now and start to test it out. But this series only works if you know your angle. All three of them, and Lauren as well, all of them know their story and know their process so, so deeply. And this is the piece most people skip when they like want to start documenting something. Like they want to start documenting before they know what they’re actually building authority around. And then they post. They might get a little engagement, but wonder why it’s not like actually leading to sales. And that’s the reason I wanted to show you the actual sales, the followers, the views, et cetera.

Megan Yelaney:

Right? You need one sentence rooted in your story that makes people immediately understand what you do and why you are the one to do it and that you can plug into reels, captions or carousels so your content is not starting from scratch every single time and makes your video series hit so much more. If you have not heard, I am running an event the end of this month, the 28th, 29th and 30th. 30th. If you’re listening to this in real time of April and I’m calling it your 10k1 liner because I’ve had clients nail this down, go all in with it and hit their first 10k month. Now, obviously there’s context, there’s more to it. They had a clear framework, they had a clear story, all those things. But this one liner has really changed it for them. It is simplified content so much and we’re going to build this together in a three day sprint on telegram.

Megan Yelaney:

So voice notes, you can dip in and out when you can that week, all for $27. And day three is going to be all about finding your video series from your one liner. So you’re gonna pick your video series by the end of this three day sprint. Make sure you go to the link in the show Notes to opt in if you have any questions. DM me on Instagram eganyulainey and I will answer those, of course. But if you loved this episode, if you’re like, oh my gosh, this was so helpful. This was like a workshop in itself. This is like a fragment.

Megan Yelaney:

A fragment of what you’re going to get in the series. Join the 10K1 liner. It’s going to hit. It’s going to help you really nail down that repeatable line so you can stop overthinking content and help you create this video series. So go to the link and I hope you enjoyed this episode. I’ll see you in the next one.
