Welcome back! Today, I’m posting about what it takes to run a successful group coaching program and why I think it’s an incredible way to scale your business to make more money. This can be done WITHOUT putting tons of extra time in and it’s a great way to impact more people.
I’m going to give the behind-the-scenes of my group program and how it’s evolved since 2018. Then I’ll share an inside look at how I run the program today, what I’ve changed, the overall framework, and how to set boundaries within the program to make it even more effective from both ends. There’s a lot of meat to cover here, so let’s dive right in!
Many people love having 1:1 coaching and the touchpoint it provides. Especially introverts. I myself love it! But, the truth is that you can only do so much coaching 1:1s.
You can’t create the wealth you want through 1:1 only. It’s not the thing that scales. I haven’t seen anyone be able to scale that way, and 1:1s really come down to trading your time for money.
The next best step is to take what you do with 1:1s and put it into a group coaching format. In 2018, I hit the point of having 10 1:1 clients. It was a lot and I felt pretty capped. So, I thought – where do I go from here? Let’s talk about that journey next.
I created a course for my private clients based on the struggles I saw coming up in my 1:1 sessions time and time again. First, I thought I would sell the course. But, I knew the power of coaching. At this point, I really had to unlearn the belief that 1:1 coaching was the only way to get the best coaching results.
I started teaching in a group format and realized the community sense of group coaching is so important. I had loved being in group programs myself, and it was my turn to do it and teach people that way with the course I created.
In December 2018, I ran a five-day challenge called the Get More Clients Challenge. It was a huge success and I had 32 people sign up. It was really underpriced, but I had to start somewhere, right?!
I wanted everyone to feel well taken care of and this course was teaching the framework of how to build your business from the ground up online using social media and attraction marketing. It had 8 modules that build upon each other.
Want to know the kicker? I sold the program without it being created. The caveat was that I knew the steps and the order of what I was going to teach people and I had so much proof from building my own businesses and working with private clients.
I did this because I didn’t want to create something that wasn’t sold yet. And, once it was sold, it lit a fire under my ass once to make it even more incredible. Finally, I was able to tweak based on the group as I learned about them and their needs. I put TONS of time and care into this process, which is why I think it worked so well.
So, I launched in early December 2018 to start in January. Once it got started, I dripped one module a week to the participants. They would watch one module per week and there was a catchup week around week four. Then, we would have a weekly call to review the module they’d completed.
The framework looked like this: watch, implement, then discuss questions and comments on the weekly calls.
So, this was not just teachings – everyone had to implement their learnings, too. Doing this is what drives real results and the framework was effective because everyone was forced to go do it.
Something very useful in group coaching is that people need clear expectations from the start. Give everyone direction and be clear and instruct them what to do at the end of each step – homework, so to speak. Also, let people know where to go if they’re struggling or have a question.
You also want them to know how they should communicate with you and the group. I like using Slack to have challenges and topics, but I let people know that if there’s something super sensitive they want to talk about, they can DM me on there. But, I keep about 90% of the conversation to the group channels. Because it’s group coaching – so that’s what makes sense!
You want to help people see amazing results, and for that, I like to limit the number of people in each group. I love the intimacy of this and it’s important to me that no one feels like a number. I also have two co-coaches so it’s a great balance and they’re both so great at what they do.
Another thing I do is limit access to me during the coaching process, which goes back to that communication piece. But, I still always ensure questions get answered and ensure people get what they need.
It’s SO key to make sure that you under promise and over deliver – make that a core tenant of your group coaching and you can’t go wrong.

Many people put too much into their programs. It can be overwhelming and that causes people to stop! Give people basic and fundamental steps. Tell them what’s essential for them to experience their transformation in three to five main steps.
Remember that the transformation isn’t the end of their journey – just the end of that step! They can continue on with you in the next step, which is very exciting! This is more likely when clients get the results they want. Keep in mind that less is more when creating your group program.
Group coaching is an amazing way to scale your business and it doesn’t take away from the impact you create. In fact, it amplifies it! I hope this post has opened your eyes to that fact in a major way!
