The Identity Shift Required to Scale (+ a Retreat Recap)

I want to enjoy this build and not go into spirals that literally make it harder to do the work that will get me there.

What happens when a mastermind retreat kicks off with an unexpected construction crew, no heat, and no hot water? You laugh, go to dinner, and call it a story!

I’m pulling back the curtain on ALL of it—the best retreat I’ve ever hosted, the mindset spiral I didn’t see coming, and the real reason I’m done saying I’m “rebuilding” my business.

This one’s a diary entry and a pep talk all in one, and you’re gonna feel it.

If you’ve ever felt the toxic pressure to compare yourself to a past version of your success, or if you’re struggling to balance ambitious goals with being a present parent—I hope this episode gives you the permission you need to finally burn the plan and start fresh.

Topics covered in this podcast episode:

  • The mastermind retreat disaster that somehow became transformational
  • What else happened at the retreat—energy healing, photos, workshops, & more
  • The identity shifts unfolding inside the Expansion Era Mastermind
  • Why comparing yourself to your past self can quietly sabotage growth
  • Why visibility feels harder at new levels of growth
  • Why I’m officially retiring the word “rebuild”
  • The truth about my $100k cash months journey
  • What finally pulled me out of a mindset spiral

One of the biggest things that’s been holding me back—and a lot of my clients—is constant comparison to our past selves.

If you’ve been putting pressure on yourself to “get back” to an old version of success, this episode is for you.

TRANSCRIPT

Megan Yelaney:

Hello, my party people. I am so excited to have this solo episode. Honestly, this is going to be a little bit of a. A diary, if you will, a little life update. But before we get into the goods and I share the fiasco, the disaster that started the best Mastermind retreat I’ve ever run. So stay with me. I have a very special gift for, for you that is officially out. As I am recording this episode or as you are hearing this episode, I have season two of my private podcast, Main Character Energy Release.

Megan Yelaney:

The first few episodes are out. You can start listening to them now. You just go to meganyelaney.com/main-character-energy. We’ll also put it in the link below. I’m so freaking excited about this podcast because I ran a season one version last year and it went over like, oh my gosh, like hotcakes. Is that the phrase I’m looking for? Everyone loved it. It really, really is going to help you start to figure out the pieces you need to define your edge, to figure out what is unique about me. Why is something to choose me over someone else? Like, what do I want my name to be synonymous with? What do I want to be known for? We’re going to dive into all of that in this, in this podcast.

Megan Yelaney:

So if you feel like your content is good but it’s not converting, we’re going to talk a lot about why in this and we’re going to talk a lot about AI in this. Because a big thing I dive into the first episode on that I, I will leave for the first episode. So you’ll go register, get the link and you can listen. You can start binge listening now. Is that people are really freaking out about AI. They’re like, oh my gosh, it’s everywhere. Everyone’s teaching it, it’s taking over. And the thing I’m noticing is the people, the clients of mine that are like not freaking out in a negative way, but more excited about it, they have an edge.

Megan Yelaney:

They have something unique and specific about them and their brand. They have a point of view, they have a philosophy, they have a perspective. And so AI is just going to amplify that. It’s amazing. It’s like, great. Now I can create more content, I can expand myself because I’m so clear on my edge. If you are not clear on that, it’s going to just make things harder. And I see it, I see it when I have people started my program, they’re very beginning and they’re just getting started.

Megan Yelaney:

They’re know still figuring out their Edge. And I see a. When they lean on AI, I see it hurt their content, I see it hurt their conversions. So it actually does the opposite. So this is going to be so helpful for you, especially if you feel like you’ve been relying on it a little bit too much and you need to get back to, like, who am I? Why would someone hire me? Like, what’s even special about me? I promise you there is something very special and we are going to figure it out through this podcast. So Again, go to maggielenie.com main-character-energy Alrighty. So excited about that. Been working on that a lot.

Megan Yelaney:

A lot. Let’s get into it. So, boy, the last few weeks, man, it has been a whirlwind and it’s been such a full full season. I’m gonna share about my Mastermind retreat and why it was so amazing. And then I’m also gonna share about something I posted on Instagram the other day as I’m recording this. And I. I just felt like I finally was very honest with my audience. And I want to be honest with you and I want to expand upon it because I just feel like with my podcast people, I can be very, very transparent.

Megan Yelaney:

And I know that you’re going to resonate with this even if you’re not at the income level that I’m trying to get to. Right. Like, the 100k cash series, I’m going to share about and. And just like, what that’s brought up for me, honestly, regardless of the level of income you’re aiming for right now, I know that that, that’s going to. This part’s gonna resonate with you. So I’m going to share that post as well as expand upon it a little bit. So let’s dive into the disaster. So I have a Mastermind.

Megan Yelaney:

It’s called the Expansion Era Mastermind. These women are incredible. They’re established business owners. They’re scaling their businesses to 20, 30k plus months. They’re really just like change makers. My client Lauren uses that phrase all the time. Shout out, Lauren. And I love it.

Megan Yelaney:

They really are. They’re like, leaving a legacy. They have an opinion. They have a real perspective. They have an. They all. Most of them have gone through my distinctive Edge program. They all have such a, like, mark in what they do.

Megan Yelaney:

And it was really cool when every single one said they could come to the retreat and they wanted to come. And so having 100% attendance, I’ve never had that. I’ve never had that. I’ve never had nine women at my retreat. And I’ve had 10 people masterminds before, but never everyone could come. So this was not only the biggest one I’ve ran, but, but it was 100% attendance, which was so exciting because no one felt like left out or FOMO or anything. Cause everyone was there, which was so, so perfect. And a couple people almost couldn’t make it for personal stuff that was going on and they were still able to figure stuff out and get there.

Megan Yelaney:

So I scoop up one of my awesome clients, Kayla. She was in the city. I scoop her up to go to our retreat house and we have a great drive there. We’re chit chatting, we’re just gabbing away. And we roll up, we’re like 15 minutes early. I already checked. I said hey to the Airbnb. It was a beautiful, big, big, big house on the water in a town called Piermont, New York.

Megan Yelaney:

Very cute. It’s like a Hallmark town. Like you go to a Hallmark movie. This is the town. It was so cute and so excited. And we roll up and they said we could check in early, I should say. And I was 15 minutes early, so not crazy early. And I roll up and there’s a construction vehicle in the driveway.

Megan Yelaney:

And I’m like, huh, what’s, what’s happening here? What are we, what’s going on? And so I dig deeper into it, I look into it and I realize as we walk into the house, they’re laying tile in the master bedroom. They’re laying, I should say flooring. Technically it wasn’t tile. They’re laying flooring in the master bedroom. The beds from the master bedroom are in the living room. It has not been cleaned. And I’m like, we have the right house. Like, what is happening? So, long story short, lots of conversations back and forth with the Airbnb host.

Megan Yelaney:

They profusely apologized. I’m still confused with how this communication mess up happened. When they very recently said, you can check in early, like the day before, they said that some. Something went awry, the lines got crossed and they forgot to mention they had construction people coming. And so it wasn’t ready until, until almost nine o’ clock at night. And you know, I am so grateful that I have incredible clients who are all so gracious and didn’t care. We went out to dinner, we laughed about it, we had a great time. We came back and we were like, you know, all right, no harm, no foul, it’s fine.

Megan Yelaney:

I got a little bit money back. Not nearly what I think I should have gotten, but a Little bit back, obviously, because they were like, whoa, this is, you know, bad. You guys are checking in four hours later. What if we had something, you know, big planned that night, but then the heat didn’t work and the hot water didn’t work, and I was like, are you. Are you kidding me? Really? And then we thought the fridge stopped working, but that wasn’t. That didn’t happen. So thank God. So it was cold.

Megan Yelaney:

It was like 35 degrees that night. And so luckily there was lots of blankets. We bundled up, everyone went to bed. Not the best sleep. And no one could take a shower. Everyone smelt and. And they fixed everything the next day. Probably like 10 o’.

Megan Yelaney:

Clock. I wanna say maybe 9 or 10. So it all got settled, but, like, it was just comical at that point. And, you know, one of my clients said to me, like, you’re. I’m, like, impressed with how calm you are. I was more so, like, laughing. I was like, this is. I was texting my husband because he’s so good at handling this kind of stuff.

Megan Yelaney:

This is not one of my fortes is, like, having these direct conversations with people like this. Like, people, please, a little too much. But between him and one of my clients, who’s very good at that, we got it together. We sent the right message. But, oh, my gosh, it was just like a comedy of errors. I’m like, are you kidding? I’m hosting these women who are coming for this nice tree to this beautiful, luxurious house. What? What. What is happening? This is not what I promised them.

Megan Yelaney:

And again, I’m very lucky that I have incredible clients. But the first night, I think one of the things that really made it and made me calm, you know, within all of this, because honestly, at the end of the day, I’m like, what am I gonna do? Like, I can’t. Me freaking out and, like, throwing a hissy fit and crying or getting upset. Like, it’s not gonna do anything. Let’s go. Let’s have some fun. Let’s have a great dinner. We had an amazing dinner.

Megan Yelaney:

We laughed. We. We’re still laughing about it today. We’re, like, still laughing about it because it was so funny. And, I mean, that’s how you got it. You gotta roll with it, right? But one of the reasons I think we had such a beautiful entrance into this is I had. I hired one of my friends, Lauren Courtney. Shout out, Lauren.

Megan Yelaney:

I am. I think it’s. I am Lauren Courtney on Instagram, not the. Yeah, I am Lauren Courtney. We’ll. We’ll link her Handle below. I hired her to come do an energy healing session and be our private chef the second night. She is like just such a.

Megan Yelaney:

A jack of all trades and master of many. I should say though she’s really good at everything she does. She’s one of those people who is just so gifted in so many things and it such a perfect way. After we got home, we all went into a room upstairs and I had all of their goodie bags laid out with personalized journals that I got made. One of my friends in the mastermind I’m in, she does calligraphy and she personalized all of their journals. So cute. We had little protein bars, I had little agendas printed out with the logo pens of course, like this thing called aqua notes which you put in your shower and you take, you know, when your shower brainstorm, you know, breakthroughs come through, you can write it down. It’s like one of my favorite things to give to people, especially entrepreneurs.

Megan Yelaney:

Aqua notes, write it down. You’re never going to regret getting that. For an entrepreneur it’s genius. Everyone always loves it. So all of that, they got to open that and then we did some intention setting and I said what do you really want these next few days to be? What do you want to get out of this? Not only like, you know, emotionally and spiritually and all that, but also like practically like what do you want to talk about? What are things you really want to nail down? And so went through that. I wrote down notes, got all that planned. And then Lauren, the beautiful Lauren, the magical Lauren, she led us through an energy healing session and it was so, it was healing. I mean it was literally what it’s supposed to do.

Megan Yelaney:

It was so incredible and it was just the best way to kick it off because when you’re setting all these intentions and you’re, you know, you just traveled and all this stuff happened, you just get, you can be so overwhelmed. And it was such a peaceful like I’m even like just taking such a deep breath like thinking about it. It was so beautiful and such a great way to release like so many women just literally released a lot in that one session. And man, 10 out of 10 way to kick off a retreat. If you ever run a retreat, get an energy healer or something to set the tone and help people like immediately get vulnerable and release because it’s, it’s what made the rest of the retreat happen. Honestly, it was such a perfect kicking off point. So we go to bed, we’re a little cold, but we wake up bright eyed and bushy tailed, we make breakfast and then we have our first session around 9:30. I was hosting, I did a domino belief kind of round robin.

Megan Yelaney:

So we all went around and helped each other really land and really like hone in on and lock in everyone’s main message. The main belief that everyone needs to nail down for their clients to really pick them to understand that their program is the one that they need. And so we knocked, we locked that in and then we started to do a little bit of content repurposing lesson on top of that. So now that you have your main message, let’s build our content repurposing plan. But then we transitioned to our first guest speaker at 11, who is Rachel Joy, my amazing friend. And I’m working with her actually for NLP work right now. She’s talking me off of many spirals and she walked us through a subconscious reprogramming exercise and helping us identify what the limiting beliefs are that are gonna block us from reaching all these beautiful goals that we’re putting out there. Right.

Megan Yelaney:

So that was incredible. And then we had a break for lunch and then we had a training with Nicole Nieves, who is the founder of the brand Vibe. We will also link her below. She’s absolutely incredible and she did a whole clawed like masterclass times 10. It was absolutely incredible. Everyone’s mind was blown and what they’ve already done since it’s been two weeks since the retreat, it’s crazy what they have done since then. It’s kind of wild what everyone has like taken from and so just really went, okay, this is how you’re building your business brain and this is how you’re going to like help Claude amplify your genius. I love her approach to AI and Claudette specifically because she doesn’t just, she doesn’t encourage you to use it in the way a lot of people use AI, where hey, basically think for me.

Megan Yelaney:

I mean she’s a brand expert. She would never do that, be so against her. You know what she goes for what she stands for. And which is why I wanted her out of anyone I’ve seen to speak on this, because she really comes at it from a. You train it to be you, not to think for you, you through the thinking. And then it amplifies your thinking, right? It just makes it live in multiple places. It makes you create a blog quicker, it makes you do all these things, but it’s from your brain first. And that’s like your edge.

Megan Yelaney:

You have to have your edge solidified. Right again, main character energy Podcast, go listen, it’s going to talk all about that. So that was amazing. Took a little break and then we went into more of content repurposing session the rest of the day and then had a beautiful, beautiful, delicious dinner provided by Lauren Courtney. It was so amazing. Stayed up way too late. The next. During that time, I should say, let me finish the agenda first and then I’ll get to this.

Megan Yelaney:

I’m getting ahead of myself. The next day, the next morning we had a photo shoot pretty much from 9:30 to 1:30. It was back to back. Everyone got their own brand photos. So everyone got two outfits and then we did a bunch of group photos, got some B roll. Oh my gosh, it was just like so incredible to see everyone get everything they needed. And then during that time I was pulling people for one on one sessions. So I was going off on the side while people were getting their photos taken with other people to do some one on one sessions.

Megan Yelaney:

So that was amazing. And then from there we had a little break of course, had lunch and then went to into more of a SEO workshop with the incredible Brittany Herzberg who’s also in the Mastermind. So it was really fun for her to go, okay, take it off my like Mastermind client hat. Putting on my expert hat. And it was so Fun for like 2 and a half hours. She just like was shining. She was in her element like really helping us figure out SEO. And everyone realized they can do it, they actually can do it and they can do it much, much more simply than they think.

Megan Yelaney:

By the way, I have a link to an SEO sprint she’s doing basically helping you map out your SEO in one week. It’s in the show notes if you want to take a peek at it too. So she went through this whole SEO training and everyone just left being like, oh my gosh, I know what blogs I need to do, I know what keywords I need to do. Like it was so tangible and tactical and she was, was just so gracious with answering our millions of questions we were throwing at her and constantly interrupting her presentation. It was great. We were like question, post a question. It was wonderful. And then I took over and we finished more of the content repurposing and then dove into Collab workshop because so many of my clients really want to expand with collaborations and networking and really being intentional with that so they don’t have to just rely on social media.

Megan Yelaney:

That was kind of the, the theme of the afternoon was SEO and then collaborations like Instagram’s wonderful and great and we did that the day before with the content repurposing system. And now let’s talk about what else you have at your fingertips. There’s bigger conversations around here, like don’t complain about Instagram. Let’s also get off of it. Right? It’s wonderful. And there’s other platforms and other ways you can grow. And so we really dove into that collab workshop and that was awesome because everyone left with an idea or specific person that they were going to actually reach out to to start these intentional collaborations. I have friends who only grow with collaborations.

Megan Yelaney:

Like they don’t even post on social media. They like all their lead gen is completely from collabor. It’s pretty impressive. And that’s been a huge way I’ve grown the last year or two, so I love it. So that was amazing. And then we went to a delicious, delicious dinner at a very fancy Greek restaurant, like literally down the block. It’s right on the water. It’s so beautiful.

Megan Yelaney:

We ended up eating inside just because of the weather, but it was still so beautiful, such delicious food. And we, we were joking. We’re like, oh my gosh, this waiter is probably like, what is happening? We spent three hours there and everyone cried. Pretty much everyone cried because I made everyone go through this exercise that I did with two of the women the day before. So this is so simple. But every time I do it, it like it just hits, is you pick one person to spotlight and everyone goes around and shares what they see in that person. Again, so simple. And I cannot tell you how impactful that is for someone to hear from nine people because me included.

Megan Yelaney:

So there’s nine people in the Mastermind plus me. What they see in that person over and over and over and over. Talk about a big ass dose of confidence, like injected right in your veins. And then at the end, that person has to say what they’re owning about that. Like what? Compliment yourself essentially. And it was, that was an idea, a suggestion from one of the members. It was so impactful and I just not only like, yes, when people cry, you see, you know, their vulnerability and you see like it really hit a chord. Yes, that’s beautiful.

Megan Yelaney:

But just I literally saw the shift. Like I saw it, it’s. I always do it at the end because you get to know everyone so deeply over those few days and it was just so incredible to viscerally feel the shift in everyone. And then we went home and we went out to the fire pit and we all wrote down what we’re letting go. We Wrote it at the beginning of the Mastermind. Wrote at the beginning of the retreat, a few days before when we were cold after the construction of chaos, right before the energy healing. What are we letting go of? We wrote that down and we put it in the fire and we burned it. And it was again so cathartic.

Megan Yelaney:

And then I like played a song from a show I’m doing and everyone was laughing. It was, it was very silly, but it was so cathartic. And it’s been two weeks as I’m recording this, so three weeks from when you listen. And it’s been pretty wild to already see what’s happening. Like four of the girls just posted some wins that they had. And all these wins are directly related to things they were letting go of. And it’s really insane. Like, I’m like, wow, that was fast.

Megan Yelaney:

That was fast. There’s something that happens when you are in a room, physically in a room, not a zoom room, but you’re physically in a room with people and you are saying your deepest, darkest feelings and you’re saying and admitting what you want. And then they’re reflecting back on you, why they know you’re meant for that. There is something that cracks you open, that you’re like, I am done playing small. I am done. And it’s why I love having these retreats. If I can schedule wise in the middle of the Mastermind, because it’s such a, like great way for us to all be even closer the second half, but also hold each other and call each other out because you feel that comfort when you’re with someone in person. You’re like, okay, now I’m.

Megan Yelaney:

Now I like really know you. Now I’m like really your friend. So now I really can call you out on your bullshit, right? Because that’s really what it is. I mean, think about it. That’s what it is. You could have the best strategy. Why do people not do it? It’s because of our bullshit that we hold, right? It’s our, it’s our stuff that comes up. And so this was such a beautiful, beautiful midpoint.

Megan Yelaney:

Like, hey, let’s really connect to what do we have to actually let go of to finally hit the goals that we say we want to hit? Like, what have we been holding back on? And so it was pretty wild. And we did that with two of the other girls the day before in more of a visibility sense. Because at the beginning of the retreat they said that, you know, they’ve had a little bit of a block around visibility. It’s not that they’re scared to be seen on camera or anything like that. They’ve been pros at that. But they’re just like, I have this video series idea and I’m not posting it. Like I don’t. I’ve even recorded some of them and I don’t know why.

Megan Yelaney:

And as we went around and really uncovered a lot of them were. It was two of them, both of them and especially one had this like, I’m scared if I’m myself and fully, fully, like say and own my successes that people won’t like me, that people will judge me, that people will think I’m too much. And we were able to work that through by showing and reflecting in them. Actually, everything you’re saying is why we will like you even more. And it was so cool to see again that click. I saw it in one of my clients eyes who realized when people were saying that to her, it clicked. She’s like, oh my gosh, this is so true. Me truly sharing my successes and truly leaning into what I know I’m good at.

Megan Yelaney:

It’s not me bragging or boasting. It’s actually why people want to be around me even more. I’m really great at this. I have the skill, I have to be more loud about it. And it was just pretty insane to see like people that have been supporting each other and I’ve been supporting, you know, in that one on one capacity have this like, like, oh, they’re not going back anymore. Like they can’t because they, they said it and we’re holding them to it. I mean, a few of the girls literally changed their Instagram handle that they’ve been holding on for years. And it was like a big deal.

Megan Yelaney:

It was like a really big deal for them. You know, it feels like an identity shift. It was such an identity shift for so many of the women. And I think a big theme that we had was letting go of your past self. And that was for me too. And this will lead into what I posted about recently that I want to share. Like I have, I’ve been struggling with my 100k series and not struggling in the sense of like not doing the work. I don’t really struggle with that.

Megan Yelaney:

That’s something I am like, I’m a generator. When I have something I want to do and I’m excited about it, I do it. But more so in how I’m being perceived and struggling to like share this series and share what I’m doing. Because I feel like, I feel like I’M far away and I feel like it’s not as entertaining. And I, I’m like, how many times can I say I’m doing this thing, you know? So a few days ago this is all gonna wrap up. But actually let me finish this thought. Megan, stay focused. I’m like a big, a big theme.

Megan Yelaney:

This leads into it nicely, I promise. Was letting go of the past version of yourself to get to the next one. Because it’s very easy to compare yourself if you had success in the past. You know, some of these women are new moms and or are in different businesses and so they’re comparing themselves to their past success in their previous businesses or their pre kid self. And that was a really big theme was we’re not even comparing ourselves to ourselves anymore. We are different. We are starting now from scratch. New.

Megan Yelaney:

It’s day one. No more looking back. Like we are not looking back to look forward. We are just looking forward. And I that’s one thing I burned. I said I burned control. I burned the plan and I burned comparing myself to myself like I am not rebuilding two 100k cash months. I am building.

Megan Yelaney:

I am in a build, not a rebuild. A build. Now I still might say rebuild now and then it’s the name of the series. But that’s truly when I think about it, that’s what I’m doing. And this brings me to my little, my little spiral. So I’m gonna read my post in case you haven’t watched it. And I promise you, even if you’ve watched the reel I made, I did a reel with the Taylor Swift audio. It’s me.

Megan Yelaney:

Hi, it’s me. Hi, I’m the problem. It’s me. So that one and in it it says like that’s keeping me from hitting 100k months. And then it’s hey, it’s me. I’m the problem. It’s me. So I’m gonna read that and probably expand upon it a little bit.

Megan Yelaney:

So I announced that I am actively building towards 100k cash months exactly two months ago on March 3rd. I posted this on May 3rd. So it was exactly two months ago. And it’s taken all of me to not succumb to the internal pressure I feel to impress people. Even saying that right now feels like blech. But it’s just the truth. I hate like admitting that, right? I’m like, I should be above that. I should be past that shit.

Megan Yelaney:

But there’s just some stuff you’re constantly going to work, work against. You’re a human Right. And I’m not going to pretend I don’t care what people think. And making this series is something that’s making me actively work on caring what people think. So some highs, because there have been highs in the past few months doing this series. The second I announced this goal, I really launched into action. I made hires I should have made months ago. Facebook ads systems, AI bot creation for my clients.

Megan Yelaney:

I got my backend systems in place to scale my signature offer. Like, I made moves, moves right away. Like within the week, week of announcing it, I made my program evergreen and signed nine women into it, bringing in an extra 34, 500 in sales. Amazing. So excited about that. I was like more than I expected in. In Evergreen sales right away. I put out a low ticket offer that 35 people.

Megan Yelaney:

Actually, no, now 37 people because two people just joined late yesterday are in and are absolutely loving. It was such a good sprint. Like, so much clarity came from the sprint. I hosted my Mastermind retreat, as you know, with a hundred percent attendance and it was hands down the best one I’ve ever had. So all amazing highs. Now some of the lows. I have felt this immense pressure put on by myself to hit this quickly. And that pressure drove me into a bit of a mindset spiral that luckily I was very supported through with my NLP coach, Rachel Joy.

Megan Yelaney:

But this spiral included me majorly questioning my skills, my worthiness, if I could sustain 100k cash month business again now that I’m a mom. Like, it just really all felt like too much and it was too fast and like I was looking for ways to not have this work out versus what I usually do is I look for evidence to support that of course it will work out. But I found myself literally looking for evidence that it won’t. Like reasons, excuses, like already, oh, this is why I can’t do this now. I just gotta wait till they’re focused. They’re five. We just gotta wait. The spiral was also timed with starting rehearsals for Fiddler on the Roof, a show that I’m in.

Megan Yelaney:

I’m playing Seidel and Frumasera. If you know the show at all, you’ll know what I mean. If you know the show, it’s really, really fun. Part planning a Mastermind retreat, which, you know, we just had our best retreat that took a lot of planning and I have an incredible assistant, shout out Eye who helps so much with this and Lauren and all the other people I just named. And Rachel and Nicole, our amazing photographer. Olivia, like, I had help. Don’t get me wrong, but I did a lot of planning for this. I put a lot of effort into this and it was 110 worth it.

Megan Yelaney:

And I loved it. I actually loved, I loved doing it. Supporting my clients just in general, right? I have a Mastermind. I have one on ones. I have a group, my group program, and I have a continuation. So I have have 39 clients. I think actually maybe like 42. As I was, as I was doing all this and I was planning a new low ticket event and being a mom to my twin boys who I’m with, a lot of the time I’m working about 25, 30 hours a week.

Megan Yelaney:

So the rest of the time I am mama momming. So that’s a lot. That’s a lot of moving parts, right? And I announced this goal and decided to go all in during an already busy season because the rehearsals add a lot. I mean, there was like, like eight hours of rehearsal a week. That’s a lot of extra time. Now. That’s time that I would have been hanging with my boys or maybe doing a little extra work or like relaxing. So to me, like everything, I just named this show, coaching my clients, getting this event together, the Mastermind Retreat.

Megan Yelaney:

I genuinely have loved it all. Like, I love what I’m doing, I love what I’m spending time on. But even when you love what you’re doing, when there’s a lot of moving parts, even when you have help, it can still make your brain feel a little like, you know, a lot, a lot of stuff’s happening. So I, I think that contributed to that feeling. And I stayed in that spiral for like two to three weeks until my Mastermind retreat kicked off. And then I literally burned. I burned that because we burned our limiting beliefs in the fire pit, like I was telling you. And over the last week, as I’ve spent more time with my boys, I keep thinking back to why I started this series and announced this goal.

Megan Yelaney:

And it’s for them. And like even saying this now, I’m like gonna get, get emotional. Like, I have to stop trying to hit this tomorrow. And I share this in hopes that you take this on for whatever goal you’re doing. You can have the most audacious big goals. This is a very big goal in this season of life and the way I want to do this, this is big. And I’m not lowering the goal, but I am also not going to sacrifice my boys to get there. So I’m going to lay the bricks.

Megan Yelaney:

I’m going to follow the plan. I have in place. I’m going to trust and I’m also going to let it go because that’s something else I burned at the retreat was the plan. I really needed this retreat just as much as my clients did. I think that’s why it was so good. I was like, I need this too, you guys. I’m burning the plan because I have the plan and I am open to the plan adjusting. I’m open to things being presented and taking opportunities and not like being so locked in that I can’t see what else is coming.

Megan Yelaney:

And that could be a new offer, that could be a speaking opportunity, that could be an affiliate ship. Like I don’t know. But I’m open to it, right? I do hope to hit my first 100k month in this quarter. That’s the goal. And I have things in motion that would make that very possible. And I don’t think I’ll hit it consistently until next year. And I’m not saying that as like I’m taking my foot off or I’m making excuses. I’m being realistic with where I’m at right now.

Megan Yelaney:

Like something I wrote in this post. It’s so true. I don’t do things half assed. I don’t do them good enough. I do them with my full ass. I don’t know else to say that I do them greatly. It’s something I take pride in. And I’m not saying I’m an all or nothing person, but I guess a little in that sense.

Megan Yelaney:

But my whole point is if I keep trying to rush this, I’m going to really put out subpar work on all levels. I’m gonna put out like okay episodes of the podcast. I’m gonna put out okay posts, I’m gonna put out okay emails. I’m gonna coach my clients. Okay. I can’t do that. I refuse to do that. I’d rather take something off my plate right Than do that.

Megan Yelaney:

It’s just not an option. And I’m still working out, I’m still getting my sleep, I’m still eating. Like that’s important to me is like taking care of myself. I have not read my fantasy book in a while. I do miss that. But Mama had to memorize lines this weekend. Usually in the mornings I’ll read. I had to just memorize all my lines.

Megan Yelaney:

Very worth it. I love it. It’s so fun. I’m gonna really miss doing this show. Like I’m soaking up every rehearsal in every minute because it’s so fun and it goes so Fast. And before I know it, it’s gonna be over, and I’m gonna be sad. So I’m really trying to soak up every second of this show. But I.

Megan Yelaney:

I just. Another thing I say here is not only am I going to put out. I refuse to put out subpar work, but I don’t want to do that with my boys. Meaning, like, I don’t want to rush to bedtime. I don’t want to just get through the day. I don’t want to not really be with them, because I’m thinking about this, and I’m thinking about how people are perceiving me. I’m thinking about sales and goals, and I’m human. That’s going to happen.

Megan Yelaney:

But the majority of the time, I want to be with them. And they’re at just this, like, ugh, I’m gonna get again emotional. They’re at this really special age. Like, they’re two months and two years and four months, and they’re so. They’re sponges. They’re learning so much every second and seeing their personalities change and words they’re getting. And there’s, like, all of these light bulbs going off. And especially because they’re twins, like, seeing their little relationship grow and blossom and how different and unique they are.

Megan Yelaney:

And, man, it is such a beautiful experiment of nature versus nurture, let me tell you. Your kid is going to be your kid. Like, this is a blessing that I think we have as twin parents is like. And a lot of my friends ask me, they’ll be like, do one of your twins do this? Because. And it’s so nice because I can really go, wow, you. You truly, you are. You. You are just naturally who you are.

Megan Yelaney:

You know what I mean? And so it’s been so awesome to just watch them. And this is. I want to bottle this stage up. I just. Oh, I don’t want them to grow up, but of course I do, because I’m, like, excited for them to be able to fully talk. And the tantrums. The tantrums are tantruming. Aiden is tantrum Ming.

Megan Yelaney:

Love him, love him, love him. But, boy, does that boy know how to throw a good tantrum. He’s very skilled at that. He’s also my drama king. He likes. Loves to perform. He loves to sing. He’s.

Megan Yelaney:

I. I’m so excited. I hope he’s going to be a performer. So, you know, I was probably that way, too. But it’s. It’s a lot. But I really, like, I just want to bottle it up so Much. And so I just had that realization last week.

Megan Yelaney:

I was like, I refuse to refuse. It’s not. It’s not even a time thing because I’m still not working more than 25 or 38 hours a week. So it’s not even that. It’s a presence thing. It’s an energy thing. I know if you have kids or even if you don’t have kids, you know what I mean? Like, you can be with someone technically, like all day and not actually mentally be there. I cannot do that.

Megan Yelaney:

I will not look back on this time that’s already going so freaking fast. And I hate it. I hate how fast it’s going to. I just. I really do. I’ve been, like, struggling with that lately because I just. Oh, my gosh. I just want them to stay this way forever again.

Megan Yelaney:

I know I don’t, but I do. I would be so upset if I looked back on this time and I said I was not present with them because a goal that I don’t need, my family doesn’t need this goal. We are more than fine. Affected how I showed up with my boys. I started to kind of see that happening a little bit. And so I share all this very haphazardly and probably not in a non linear way to share that. Building a business to 100k cash, months with kids and super limited time is wildly different and much more challenging than before. So again, I am going to stop saying rebuild because I am letting go of past me who hit that number.

Megan Yelaney:

And if I’m being honest, I was saying that because it felt good to be like, hey, guys, I’ve done this before. Remember, pay attention to me. I’m cool. I’ve hit it. Like, I know what I’m doing. Like, that’s. That’s my ego voice. She’s like a Valley girl and she’s annoying, she’s fickle.

Megan Yelaney:

I’m not rebuilding. I am building as a mom who again, refuses to do anything that affects her time with her boys. And I mean the presence of time. Because again, the more and more I get into this phase, I just want to bottle it up. And I refuse to look back on this with regret. So it’s gonna take a while. And I’m saying this not to keep you engaged in this series, but more so to like, tell myself because I want to really enjoy this build and not go into spirals that literally make it harder to do the work that will get me there. These spirals put me back.

Megan Yelaney:

Because then I overthink and those are all Times I could actually be spending on work that moves the needle forward. Right. Oh, that’s the update. It’s not my. Look at me crushing it. And I could have just stopped with the highs. Right. And there’s part of me that was like, tempted to just be like, everything we did great this past two months, we’re not there yet, but, you know, we’re making all the strides and that would be true.

Megan Yelaney:

And I feel like this part is the part that people go, why the frick am I feeling this way and Megan’s not feeling this way. Oh, oh, I am, I am. And I was just having a conversation with one of my clients who is. Has a one year old, is very actively building her business back up and doing really great and feeling overwhelmed. A lot of moving parts, and it’s not easy. And she was saying, I wish more people talked about this. Like, I wish I didn’t feel so alone in this. And I’m here to tell you, whether it’s you building back up after having kids or after just a really big life transition or just kind of feeling like something shifted for you, it’s a lot when you’re in the rebuild a lot.

Megan Yelaney:

And it takes a lot to again, kind of set your ego to the side and really clean slate it. Because I think one of the biggest things that’s been holding me back and that I know is holding her back, and I know it’s holding a lot of my clients back, is constant comparison to ourselves, constant comparison to the past. What Instagram used to be, what the good old days used to be, all this. It’s like, we have to stop saying that. That is not helping anyone. That’s not coming back. Right? We’re not going back there. It’s kind of like when people in Covid would say, like, when we get back to normal, hate to break it to you, there’s no such thing as normal.

Megan Yelaney:

We’re not going back to the normal. We are forever changed. Like 2020 fundamentally changed everyone. Everyone who lived through that time fundamentally changed us, changed our society, changed our world. You cannot go back. We’re not going back. And there’s many things we shouldn’t go back to. Right? It’s another episode for another time.

Megan Yelaney:

And so I am really taking that on. And that might mean letting go of certain things, certain people, certain things in my life that I just need to. To get to this next stage. And not just next stage and next level income wise, but just I want to be in my business. And so I just urge you to like, ask yourself that. Like, why? What am I comparing this. This current season? Who am I comparing myself to? Is it someone else? Is it my past version? And how was that really slowing me down from actually reaching the goals that I want to reach? All right, I know this was like more of a diary entry, but I hope this helped. I wanted to just give a nice, like, heart to heart update.

Megan Yelaney:

Go to the link in the show notes and binge listen to the main character Energy podcast. The first few episodes are live. I’m going to be dripping them over the next couple weeks, but it’s a good one. I just recorded a few of them and I’m like, oh, this is spicy. It’s very good. You’re going to love it. You’re going to really be able to map out the parts that you need to start defining your edge, stand out, and really just have this brand that’s truly a representation of the mark you want to leave on the world. Like, what do you want to leave? What do you want to be known for? That’s what we’re really going to talk about in that podcast.

Megan Yelaney:

So go to the link in the show notes, get the episode start. Binge listening. Message me after you do. Thank you for listening to my diary entry and I will see you in the next one.
